Does Pi-Hole disrupt anything important?
I ordered a Raspberry Pi 5 so I have a Pi 3 that’s about to be redundant. I haven’t used Pi-Hole so I was thinking it’d be good for that but I’m curious if there’s any downsides for users. Are sites blocked if you dont whitelist them? That sort of thing....
Pi-hole or AdGuard for home dns-based blocking?
Hey folks, I just realized my pihole server, running on a Ras Pi 3 needs to be rebuilt from scratch. I’ve seen many mentions of AdGuard DNS here though. What’s your thinking on which is better now?...
Distro for experienced Linux user
Hi, I’m looking for a distro for my laptop. My first distro was Pop!_OS, then I switched to Fedora, then Arch for a year and 2 months ago I switched to Fedora Silverblue, because I wanted to try immutable distro that relies on containers and flatpaks to be usefull. Silverblue is great but not so much for me, its not flexible...
Installing Linux: Am I paranoid or responsible?
For me, it’s not enough to verify the integrity of an ISO – I also have to verify its authenticity (or at least verify the checksum file) with GPG. I don’t know why, but just need to see that “Good signature” message before I feel safe installing Linux....
Noveau on old NVidia GPUs?
I dont really want to use that proprietary driver, but I plan on getting an old Thinkpad W530 that has some probably pretty slow NVIDIA GPU. Do you know if these are well supported by Noveau? Would be great!...

Give browser and wine ownership to user "nobody" = "foolproof" against viruses?
Title. Just had this baseless yet possible idea on my head and I’d like to know how wrong it is? Since afaik, “nobody” has absolutely zero permissions… other than the ones given by the user. Pretty sure I’m missing something vital or important, but… I’m completely fine being called dumb every now and then....

Autologin with disk encryption
Is there a security risk with enabling autologin when you have disk encryption with LUKS enabled? If anyone gets hold of the PC, they have to enter the password needed for decrypting the disk.
Help, no session?! (lemmy.world)
I just installed a cisco vpn. And after installing some required libraries I got the option to get rid of “unused” libraries. So I did ‘sudo apt autoremove’ as suggested. After I rebooted I no longer have a either x11 or wayland in the drop down menu. I can no longer login via the GUI....
