I appreciate it, I was more so wondering whether or not I could keep my existing build as is aside from the GUI. I’ve done it the headless/CLI via ssh route previously but thought I’d check out using the GUI during the setup stages and being able to enable/disable the GUI at will and how that would affect performance vs installing only CLI at the start of the build.

Did BTRFS fix the Raid-5 problem or no?

    manifesto7473 ,

No, but according to this Phoronix article, they will fix the RAID56 issues soon:

The support for RAID56 is in development and will eventually fix the problems with the current implementation. This is a backward incompatible feature and has to be enabled at mkfs time.

    MigratingtoLemmy ,

That is taking a surprisingly long time TBH

radioactiveradio , (edited ) in What are the differences between linux distributions?

How much snap you have/need. Or the stability I guess, but in my experience that hasn’t been a problem yet.

Thankfully we pretty much only see this at the start screen.

Praying they bring back different backgrounds for different desktops. 🤞🤞

On Neon in Wayland it moved the application launcher and notifications to the center of the screen. I saw an issue opened for it just now, so hopefully it will be fixed soon. But I’m expecting it will likely just be a thing until Plasma 6 because that is likely where 100% of their resources are right now.

    Pantherina ,

    Try to recreate the panel?

And yes, Plasma6 is usable now, it seems like everything is just working and I am close to rebasing. There is a Fedora Kinoite variant which is in my experience way better than Neon Unstable

Except for the fact that several major programs (dolphin) crash on a regular basis. It’s definitely not ready for the average yet.

Did not happen to me when I updated on Arch. So might be a Neon quirk.

Use Btrfs partition with compression, my entire arch install takes less than 6GiB on disk space, and I have gimp, inkscape and kdenlive installed: imgur.com/HofMHUJ.png

In fact I have the OS partition limited to 35GIB. And it should have been 25GIB or less.
