I don’t know and I won’t be testing it. This computer is for my Dad and will be his first Linux experience so I can’t be running any experiments. It would be interesting to find out though
This is a really useful writeup because it outlines a simpler installation. It seems like most people post when they have a very special or unique situation.
That’s not native to Kinoite and since the computer is for my Dad and it’ll be his first Linux experience I don’t want to be adding things with RPM-OSTree. I did add some more info on the key into my post. I hope that helps you
You need to use a dmix PCM for you card as output.
If you type aplay -L | grep dmix it’ll show you a list of dmix devices. You can set one as the default if you create a file named .asoundrc in your homefolder with the content:
You of course replace the value of slave.pcm with your desired card name. I just gave one of mine as an example. The above default configuration also takes care of automatic conversion, via the plug pcm, for different samplerates and formats to the settings the hardware is set up to use. Every program that use ALSA for output will read the above file, but you need to restart a program for changes to take effect.
If you enjoy audio production I’m sure you’ll find some good use for Jack, but for audio mixing all you need is to use an ALSA dmix pcm for output.
I tried my best, but it’s a no go. As I mentioned, I’m a smooth brain linux noobie… the only dmix devices I have are PCH, and a bunch of different Nvidia ones. I tried setting the device to PCH and Nvidia but nothing worked. I’m just going to find a different solution. Thanks for the help tho
Imo you immensely overestimate the capabilities of these models. What they show to the public are always hand picked situations even if they say they dont
I was always happy with everything I got from Lenovo (mostly ThinkPads but also IdeaPad), both cheap ones, used and new ones, always worked without any problems.
I'm ok with the XPS 13 from Dell but I had some problems, they needed to replace the motherboard and when you hold it it bends a bit and does register a click on the touchpad.
I hated my Tuxedo laptop, very expensive and very bad quality, had to send it in to repair twice and after a year I gave up on it because it was so broken and bought a used ThinkPad.
Sometimes I do like his videos, but this one was positioned so bad. The video does go over the changes in Plasma 6.1 and they are good, but this is not a huge change that would change anybodies live.
I know he is probably inspired by channels like Linus Tech Tips, but even they don’t got that far anymore. I think he probably intended this in a comedic way, as most of his audience knows that he makes his videos like this, but it really makes the videos worse.
Nice reaction for his attempt to present changes in Plasma and KDE itself somehow positive. It’s pleasure to see all these dislikes. I want to think that people who do that are KDE users, because it suits perfectly to the culture of the KDE community.
Stop blaming it on some nonexistent cultural phenomenon.
People are capable of recognizing (good or bad) quality aspects of the software they use and the videos they get recommended to watch. And they are free to point out the bad ones as well as the good ones.
You’re mid right, the when something AI based is announced this is really criticized by some people and there are almost right. When something new pops, like windows recall, it is certain that this “new” feature is really not what AI is capable, and asks really important questions about privacy. But you’re right on the fact that Linux should be a bit more interested on AI and tried to made it the right way! But for now there’s no really good use cases of AI inside a distro. LLMs are good but do not need to be linked to user activities. Image generators are great but do not need to be linked to user activities… As exemple when Windows tried Recall and failed. Apple iOS 18 wants to implement that, and this should be surely a success inside the Apple minded people. But here where FOSS, privacy and anti Big-Techs guys are the main people that’s absolutely sure that every for-profit “new AI” feature would be really hated. I’m not against this mind just giving facts
