Beeschurger: Now with real bees!

Goddamn autocorrect. It’s actually probably good because it was a sarcastic comment that would have probably been flamed.

HardlightCereal ,

Humans are the only species to industrialise slaughter and slavery. It’s very humane.

Slave-making ants: Am I a joke to you?

Kolanaki ,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

Ants even raise livestock. Though it’s not industrialized. Though I sometimes wonder if given enough time, if ants will develop machines at some point.

kemsat ,

People used to put each other’s heads on pikes, so, you could call it humane by that standard.

Stuka ,

Well, can safely block you with no loss.

I raise my own chickens, I eat their eggs and eventually their meat. They all have good lives, with plenty of space, food and fellow chickens. I think that’s as close to humane meat as I can get.

I know right… People are totally detached from reality and their animal nature

usernamesAreTricky OP ,

That doesn’t, however, reflect the meat industry at large. It is also not very scalable due to the higher land demand (and production already has high land demand)

We estimate that 99% of US farmed animals are living in factory farms at present. By species, we estimate that 70.4% of cows, 98.3% of pigs, 99.8% of turkeys, 98.2% of chickens raised for eggs, and over 99.9% of chickens raised for meat are living in factory farms. Based on the confinement and living conditions of farmed fish, we estimate that virtually all US fish farms are suitably described as factory farms, though there is limited data on fish farm conditions and no standardized definition.[1] Land animal figures use data from the USDA Census of Agriculture[2] and EPA definitions of Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations.[3]

sentienceinstitute.org/us-factory-farming-estimat…

We estimate that over 90% of farmed animals globally are living in factory farms at present. This includes an estimated 74% of farmed land animals (vertebrates only) and virtually all farmed fish.[1] However, there is substantial uncertainty in these figures given the land animal estimates’ heavy reliance on information from Worldwatch Institute with unclear methodology[2] and limited data on fish farming.

Unfortunately, being humane reduces the profit margin

HardlightCereal ,

Man, I wish people would murder their slaves more humanely

I’ll be thinking of this meme as I cook two pounds of hamburger tonight.

TheLobotomist ,

It will add flavour to it!

db2 ,

The pound of bacon I made and crumbled in to the beef helped too.

HardlightCereal ,

I’ll be thinking of your comment as I eat the neighbour’s dog tonight

db2 ,

Far be it from me to kink shame, but bruh

the_q ,

Why?

db2 ,

Because Princess Bride is awesome and I like to eat meat.

AllonzeeLV ,

Cloned, cultured meat just got FDA approval and I feel like im the only one excited about it.

I enjoy eating meat too much, but the cruelty gets to me. Grown, real meat would solve this at a fraction of the emissions to produce.

BonesOfTheMoon ,

No I’m super excited too. Becoming vegan is the best thing I’ve ever done for myself.

Uprise42 ,

Not vegan, but excited because of the environmental impact it could have

Doxatek ,

It will not be super efficient unfortunately 😬 at least not by my reasoning based on my cell culture experience. Though I will say that surely it can be made better and I’m definitely hopeful for that.

Uprise42 ,

I was considering the train of thought that more lab grown beef means less cows burping (hopefully)

rockerface ,

Now we gotta get the costs down so that it will be more profitable compared to farms
