AmbiguousDavy , in Slice and Dice seems pretty fun

The evolution and items system layered on top add a ton of replayability. I agree that it needs to come to steam, I’ve played a bunch on my steam deck and it feels like a hit if they can get a bigger audience to see it

Nyla_Smokeyface , in Aperture Laboratories Van owned by a previous client of mine

That is so cool! I am so jealous!!!

somefool , in What game do you think came closest to being "perfect"?
@somefool@beehaw.org avatar

Hollow knight. The gameplay, the smoothness of the controls, but also the universe, the atmosphere, the fantastic music. Absolutely wonderful game.

veganzombeh ,

Hollow Knight is the best game I’ve inexplicably never finished

How true is the negative top review, a player killed an admin/GM in PvP and got banned for it?

sam OP ,
@sam@lemmy.ca avatar

Haven’t heard of that, sounds like an odd situation. Not 100% sure I believe it without more context.

I don’t take reviews at face value, I have a game on steam too so I know some reviews may be way off.

MattBoySlim , in What game do you think came closest to being "perfect"?

For me, probably Half-Life 2. Especially at the time? It was such a leap ahead in both technology and overall world immersion. I still revisit it sometimes and get sucked right back in.

I’ll agree with you on Beatles Rock Band too, though. It’s a work of art.

BigBananaDealer OP ,

ive never played a half life game before. maybe i should start

ShovelKnightFan ,

The original Half Life is pretty fun, but I’d recommend checking out Black Mesa. It’s a remake of the original game in the same engine that Half-Life 2 uses, and changes some things for the better.

IcedCoffeeBitch , in What games would you recommend for someone that only recently got into gaming?

The Mario RPG franchise is very good actually, Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga and Super Mario RPG being my favorites. I’ve heard good things about Paper Mario too.

Oh and the Earthbound series is very good too, but the Mario franchise is more beginner friendly.

sincle354 ,

If they’re on PC, you can always emulate these. If you have steamdeck or something I would happily recommend Mario and Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story as the pinnacle of the M&L series IMO.

Steve , in Aonuma says Nintendo not thinking about classic style Zelda games at the moment. Does anyone think it likely they could use a third party developer again, like when Capcom made the Minish Cap ?

I would loooove if we could get top down Zelda games occasionally between BotW-style games. Like how we get 2D and 3D Mario games. I definitely don’t need an Ocarina of Time type of Zelda anymore though. That version aged and doesn’t hold up very well anymore IMO.

alehel ,

Interesting. OOT is the only one I’ve continued to return to.

Hyphlosion , in If you could only play one game exclusively, which one would it be?
@Hyphlosion@donphan.social avatar

@GlowingLantern I’d have a compilation so I could enjoy multiple titles in one package. Super Mario 3D All-Stars or the Sonic Mega Collection come to mind!

Speaking of loopholes, I'd install a game engine and create all the games I want to play myself. There are a few of them on Steam and IIRC, the Switch has a game to teach game development (basically a simple game engine with tutorials), so technically it wouldn't be cheating.

nix , in What games would you recommend for someone that only recently got into gaming?

Some old story classics: BioShock (play 1 then the others if you like 1 enough), Mass Effect, Half Life 2 (You don’t need to play 1 first).

ascagnel ,

These can’t be that old. There’s no way Half-Life 2 is … nineteen years old?!?!?!

Evergreen5970 , in Steam Summer Sale - What are your favorite Local Multiplayer Games?

Overcooked. Really makes you think about the phrase “too many cooks in the kitchen.”

Omegamanthethird , in Have you ever felt overwhelmed by how to spend your gaming time?

Yeah, I have a growing backlog. When I want to get back into a game, I think about if I'll remember what I was doing or if I'll remember the controls or if I'll ruin my save file.

What also hit hard when I lost my save file halfway through The Last of Us Part II. That game is hella depressing and intense, and I've struggled to go back through it.

All of that is compounded by the fact that I have some old comfort games that I play on my phone or Switch.

But recently, Theatrhythm and Final Fantasy XVI have got me back into the rhythm of things.

ExoMonk , in Have you ever felt overwhelmed by how to spend your gaming time?

This happened to me when I was streaming. My favorite hobby became like a job. I only played while streaming and the time I was putting in outside of work was kind of killing me. Working a full day, coming home to do dinner and time with my wife and then start streaming by 8pm a couple days a week. It exhausted me. At some point I started to skip days and then I just never went back. Now I play games as a form of entertainment like watching Netflix/Hulu. I do it for leisure.

Sometimes I miss it though and think maybe I should try and get back into it but so far I've just not.

rockprada , in The Quest to Beat abney317

Saving this for the right time to watch. SS videos are such a treat. Previewed the first 2 minutes and boy this looks like a good one!

Hundun , in How many steam deck folks are here and what are you playing?

I am living my highschool dream by playing heavily modded TES IV: Oblivion on the go.

What is the current state on SteamOS as a desktop replacement? My understanding is that the currently downloadable version is only the SteamDeck version and not suitable as a Windows replacement for the desktop.

IronDonkey ,

I don’t use it as a desktop replacement (I still have a windows desktop). But I do but default have my deck docked and hooked up to a TV, in desktop mode.

I’ve installed various flatpack programs, to include discord, chrome, and a couple jetbrains ides for various languages. They work great. I’ve done a couple non steam games (diablo), with mild annoyance but success in the end.

I have not used any office programs on it (as much as it’s cool to like Linux, I just think Microsoft wins by a lot there, and have no desire to get them working on Linux).

The deck itself has some power limitations, but I have no reason to think that they would translate to steam os on a more powerful machine.

So basically, it probably depends on what you want. It’s pretty reasonable. Definitely good enough for my secondary computer that blocks ads for videos on my tv. But personally, I still want a windows computer, because windows is the default assumption for most software I use.
