Good. I’ll happily see my favorite games delayed for this. AI isn’t a huge threat to the movie or TV industry actors, but it’s a massive threat to video game actors. It’s absolutely shameful when a handful of studios receive massive profits and they want to shortchange the people at the bottom.
This paired with the news yesterday of studios starting to unionize gives me hope. It’s about time, they’ve been taking advantage of their workers for so long, they deserve to see what that does long term. I hope they lose 10x from a strike and unionization vs just paying their employees fairly.
It’s not a huge threat to the movie and tv industry yet, but it could be soon, from writing scripts, to using actors voices and then likenesses, then eventually crafting scenes and episodes based entirely on prompts and AI its probably only a matter of time, unless regulation and Unions stand in the way.
It’s worth noting too that the games industry these days is bigger than movies, so I think this situation is a good thing for SAG AFRA to stand firm on.
oh man you have to pomodoro it? I do not have kids, but I feel like this would sort of kill the fun for me a bit. It would make play feel like work. I get that maybe that’s just what you gotta do, but I do not envy gaming parents.
It’s probably a cross between not as bad as you think and exactly as bad as it sounds— a bit more about managing expectations and hoping that you can pause during cut scenes
The next bad thing is now I’m apparently also old so I can start falling asleep at 11ish :-/
Well, if the parents are both working 40+ hours and spending 10+ hours in transit every week, there will be no free time. It’s kind of unfair to solely blame parenthood for that though imho. Another important point to remember is that kids grow fast.
Anbernic release so many handhelds and the price tends to come down a couple months after release. Maybe the SP will get there? I got a 35xxh a little while back from a UK eBay seller for about £40 if memory serves. On the other hand I imagine the SP has been super popular so who can say.
imo it’s sort of like computer graphics cards. There is never one singular best time to buy because something better is always right around the corner, and prices are always fluctuating up and down. If the SP is drawing you in to buy now, then go for it! The SP already emulates every non-analog stick console perfectly (and even a couple that do have analog sticks), so it’s not like there’s any point to waiting for a more powerful device.
Aliexpress is definitely the way to go. Here’s a link to spreadsheet with the best prices from legit stores: Link
(Compiled by /u/DargillaUomo over on reddit - i think he earns an affiliate cut, but they do seem to genuinely be the best prices if you’re buying new)
Yeah but after Cities:Skylines 2, you have to imagine that LBY had to be looking ROUGH if Paradox was afraid of showing it to the world. They probably did us a mercy tbh.
This is a shame, I haven’t played a sims game in a while and I remember them quite fondly. The latest EA sims stuff has just been utter micro transaction slop, or at least last I checked. I hate to see a smaller studio that’s not working through one of bastard publishers get hit like this.
I’m a lot more patient with paradox than I am with other publishers. Their focus still seems on producing interesting games rather than chasing “maximized revenue”. There are realities to being a publisher though. if a studio is failing to produce something and your financials are limited, there’s only so much risk you can take on extending deadlines, and writing something off for a quick boost to financials is a alluring sirens call.
I have my issues with how paradox studios design is affected by their DLC model, but I don’t think there’s a better way to bring in ongoing revenue to fund further development.
It’s a mess, all of it, but it is a results of the context and system they exist with in, not necessarily the will of those making the calls at paradox. Paradox tends to do a better job of existing with in the system without making pure slop than other big publishers, so they have my patience for that.

Feels like the only valid way to play the Sims these days is to pirate it. No one wants to pay $500 for the complete DLC collection, and if you don’t have that you’ll always be plagued with fomo and possible mod conflicts.
