Thebazilly , in Kingdom Hearts III killed my love for the saga

I’d say the intervening… what was it… 15 year?.. gap is what killed my love for the game series. I was in middle school when I played the first one, and I never even bothered with KH3. The story was painfully overwrought by the end of KH2, and I knew that tacking on another sequel wasn’t going to fix it. Nomura is going to Nomura.

It’s a shame because the series was one of my favorites back in the day. At least the soundtrack will always be good.

OctopusKurwa , in Kingdom Hearts III killed my love for the saga

The decision to drop the FF characters was such a huge mistake

LeopardStripesx3 , in What game do you think came closest to being "perfect"?

Dragon Age. I literally fell in love with Alistair while studying for my masters, so it must have been an excellent storyline for an RPG. I also played it through in full twice because it turned out my initial character choice made my perfect ending impossible…

@FlashMobOfOne@beehaw.org avatar

The two games I wish I could play for the first time again are Dragon Age and Bioshock.

The events that transpired at Ostagar, man, got you into that game REAL quick.

jaw , in What game do you think came closest to being "perfect"?

Outer Wilds

Schedar ,

Agreed. There is something very special about Outer Wilds

legion , in What game do you think came closest to being "perfect"?

Perfection is overrated. Most of my favorite gaming experiences are with games of which I would be able to cite plenty of flaws.

I like games with sharp edges.

That said, there are a lot of good games being mentioned in these comments.

zagaberoo ,

What’s a favorite example of a game you love in spite of genuinely painful sharp edges?

nihilx7E3 , in How long does a steam refund typically take?
@nihilx7E3@beehaw.org avatar

I thought this would be an automated process.

not entirely. while steam does auto approve refunds for games that are both owned less than 14 days & played less than 2 hours (not sure if this part is automated or if they train staff to just glance at the playtime & click refund in their ticket system), they still have a refund department to vet & process refunds that fall outside of that category. they’ll send you an email if what you’re refunding doesn’t fit the criteria for automatic approval:

Valve will, upon request via help.steampowered.com, issue a refund for any title that is requested within 14 days of purchase and has been played for less than 2 hours (this includes online, offline and shared library playtime).

if you played the game for over 2 hours, even if it’s just by one minute, your request is gonna be in limbo for a while until a support team member gets to it. i’ve had it happen a few times over the years & in my experience it takes anywhere from like 1 or 2 days to as many as 5, depending on how busy it is (steam sales seem to slow them down). i’ve also heard from some on the steam community that even when a refund is auto approved it can sometimes still get stuck in the system for a few days.

followthewhiterabbit OP ,

That’s the strange part. A few days old and a total of 4 minutes play-time!

I just hope its maybe stuck in the system, like you said, for a few days.

I can’t be frustrated, because the system exists for our benefit, I think I’m just mystified why it is taking some time!

nihilx7E3 ,
@nihilx7E3@beehaw.org avatar

yeah, i’d contact steam if it’s really bothering you but otherwise just wait. steam support is one of the chillest cs teams i’ve ever dealt with so you shouldn’t have any problem either way. also keep in mind a few popular games are on sale atm so they might just be processing some more than usual

followthewhiterabbit OP ,

Yep, it was 100% a ‘bigger’ game, so I’m sure I’m just stuck somewhere in the mix. Everything I click in the support pages just takes me back to my already requested request for a refund, so can’t even reach any live chat support.

My main take-away is to just be patient (it’s so not in my nature!)

Appreciate your input and help by the way!

How true is the negative top review, a player killed an admin/GM in PvP and got banned for it?

Haven’t heard of that, sounds like an odd situation. Not 100% sure I believe it without more context.

I don’t take reviews at face value, I have a game on steam too so I know some reviews may be way off.

TimeShift came out in 2007, and that game was the bomb. Loved the concept with the suits that can control time, and the game play felt really smooth. Nothing beats freezing time and grabbing the enemies’ weapons from them and shooting them with it.

I could go on…

Every Star Wars fan owes it to themselves to play Knights of the Old Republic, at least once. And if you play it once, you’ll want to play it through again, as a different character class. And if you play it twice, you’ll want to play it through again, as a dark-side Jedi. And if you play it thrice, you may be tempted to play it through again, as a Droid.

It’s a wonderful story, that feels like Star Wars (which, for those of us older Star Wars fans, who at the time were suffering through the cumulative disappointments of the prequel trilogy, became our salving solace), with plots and settings and characters and ships and light-sabers and action and betrayals that were (and still are) as rich as any of the movies or shows.

The people who run the franchise keep teasing canonicity, so play it soon, so you’ll gasp like we do when Darth Revan makes an appearance.

chahk ,

Revan’s introduction in KotOR was mind blowing.

Final Fantasy Tactics(PS1) remains my favorite game to this day. I really liked messing with the various classes and abilities, and it’s a rock-solid tactics game, to boot. Couple that with amazing music and a great political story, and you’ve got a classic.

TG Cid is hilariously broken, though.

blindsight ,

FFT has an active modding scene, too. Lots of rom hacks are still being made for the PS1 and PSP versions of the game.

I loved the bullet time in OG Max Payne game (2001).

I was addicted to EverQuest since I started playing it in 2001 for at least 10 years. They don’t call it “EverCrack” for nothing. No matter how I feel about it now, it will always hold a special place in my heart.

I also played PlanetSide MMOFPS for at least 4 years since it released back in 2003, and it was so great. I hear both good and bad things about its successor, PlanetSide 2, but haven’t tried it for the fear of it ruining my nostalgia of the original.

Starsiege: Tribes was an awesome game too. I was a beta tester for that one way back in '98, in the days before broadband was a thing. I still have an installation CD hand-signed by the devs that they had to ship to all the testers, because downloading 500+ MB over dial-up was not feasible.

Earthsiege 2 was the game for which I went out to CompUSA and bought a joystick that had swivel function (MS SideWinder 3D Pro).

I’ve actually just started this myself and I I was actually a little worried there was too much going on at first. That however proved to be unfounded and I’ve been having a really good time with it.

I won’t lie, I’m not in love with the sushi/management side of it, but I love the diving and fishing. The games got a really nice style to it too; some of the cutscenes are fantastic.
