Moderators & admins: What's the best way for users to report spam accounts? (Or not at all?)
I’m starting to notice spam accounts here — accounts that do nothing but post and crosspost links to low-quality or promotional websites....
There have been multiple accounts created with the sole purpose of posting advertisement posts or replies containing unsolicited advertising.
Accounts which solely post advertisements, or persistently post them may be terminated.
This magazine is from a federated server and may be incomplete. Browse more on the original instance.

Given the recent attack, I think this is a good opportunity to remind of the importance of using 2FA....
This is good for us, and for businesses, influencers and celebrities....
I get the impression that we’re headed for the same issues that pop up when we put all our eggs in one basket with Reddit/FB/whatever. People flock to the largest instance, and someday that instance could go down due to cost or the host losing interest....
It feels like they’re two different roles. It might be better to have user-orientated servers that prioritise federation of content and only have a couple of meta-style communities, and other servers which prioritise being the go-to place for discussion on a particular topic and less a place that manages a large number of user...
Looks like the admin for kbin.lol has some pretty valid gripes with the current status of Kbin. I have to agree, you can tell the platform is not up to speed at all....
It can be Lemmy, Mastodon, Peertube, anything Fediverse-related!
Threads new ‘Supplemental Privacy Policy’ (Instagram link) says they’ll collect (from fediverse users interacting with Threads users):...
I hope this is the right community to post in....
Do they get adopted by other instances? Are they still accessible from other instances? Can you still post on them from another instance?...
I do not want my posts from anywhere on the Fediverse on FaceBook....

I’ve been working on this for a couple weeks now, if you’ve not seen it then it lets you search/filter communities and instances on all Lemmy instances....
I’ve tried several clients now, and unlike Reddit clients I cannot locate any of the posts/comments I’ve upvoted in the past? Is that a bug/feature of the platform?

I get why World and many others defederated from Burggit. Obviously it has questionable content which is not great to have stored on big servers for legal reasons....
As a moderator of a Lemmy instance, you currently have two options to take: pushing users first to your local content or content from all instances you federate with. These options come with the costs seen in the picture. The moderator of another instance has the same choice. However, in this scenario, they will both always...
I'm assuming most of us here want a large community. The reality is most people aren't into technology nearly as much as many of the people actually on the Fediverse. For other people who are into tech (like myself and a lot of people here), the federation technology itself being promoted as a core component of the appeal makes...
I’ve seen a few posts today mulling over possible solutions to some of the issues caused by Lemmy’s explosive growth in the past few weeks. I’d like to walk through the situation as I see it, point out a few differences I’ve noticed in the federated model vs. what users of other social media may be used to, and offer a...
With today’s news of Letterboxd being acquired by an investment company, I got to wondering if I should start weaning my movie obsession off of there and onto something more open before the inevitable enshittification begins. I did a cursory search and found nothing promising, but figured the braintrust here might know...
I honestly think it sure will. People will probably go in 3 directions:...
