As a moderator of a Lemmy instance, you currently have two options to take: pushing users first to your local content or content from all instances you federate with. These options come with the costs seen in the picture. The moderator of another instance has the same choice. However, in this scenario, they will both always...
I'm assuming most of us here want a large community. The reality is most people aren't into technology nearly as much as many of the people actually on the Fediverse. For other people who are into tech (like myself and a lot of people here), the federation technology itself being promoted as a core component of the appeal makes...
With today’s news of Letterboxd being acquired by an investment company, I got to wondering if I should start weaning my movie obsession off of there and onto something more open before the inevitable enshittification begins. I did a cursory search and found nothing promising, but figured the braintrust here might know...

With Alphabet taking a hard stance against adblockers I’m wondering if devs are starting to put some focus on PeerTube? It could use some TLC. I feel like it’s a sleeping giant of the Fediverse.

Here’s the thing. I’m a mod for a small-time community for a niche interest, !castles I’m also on Mastodon, and was before my Reddit exodus. I follow #castles as well as a few other related topics on Matsodon, so I get quality toots, such as this: mastodon.scot/, that I wish I could just crosspost over to my community....
I’m using the Test Flight beta app, curious on others’ overall experience with the platform so far. I never had an Instagram account so I’m not really sure yet what I even want from it. I’m just excited on all things Fediverse and I’m happy to be part of the growing numbers....

I’ve updated the bot and added the possibility of translating hardcoded links (like this one: lemmy.world/post/2355178 or this one: lemmy.world/comment/1863672) to posts/comments with links from your instance when you mention him. I’ll show an example in comments.
I saw this post from !twoxchromosomes, and I wanted to share it here to get more discussion because it is important. I’m hoping that this post won’t crowd out any voices, and while I’ve tried to keep this post productive and inclusive, please call out any concerns and use the post if you prefer :)...
Recently cult of the dead cow came out with veilid, a secure decentralised way of sending encrypted information and i think this could be a huge asset to lemmy. Cult of the dead cow even mentions mastadon by name as they say this is the type of application it was designed for. If veilidchat takes off then i really hope the devs...
I thought about this already for a while and with Lemmy and Mastodon the opensource community has a place to really try itself out and coordinate. Then even things like open-source planning-systems (like at Amazon) and AIs are possible....
I always used old.reddit.com with RES on my desktop. I’ve started using old.lemmy.world now, and I love the familiarity, but I realize how much I miss RES. I wish there was something for the old.lemmy.world that offered the same enhancements.
Are there any paid services for either Lemmy or Mastodon? Something where, given it is a subscription service, you would expect them to stick around long-term?
I read on reddit that on Lemmy you can see users’ upvote/downvote history. I therefore expected to be able to see upvote/downvote breakdown by user for my own comments. But couldn’t find this. Does this feature exist or is that a myth?
Regardless of the negative aspects, Meta joining the Fediverse will definitely make the numbers of active users explode. This will probably bring the network and its concepts to many people and also a matter of public debate.
TLDR: This is a long post, so a shorter question you can respond to is:...
A blog post I made about my experience on Kbin, what I like about it, and some of the challenges I still face in using it. Any feedback would be appreciated as someone who is still new to blogging. Thanks.
