I saw this post from !twoxchromosomes, and I wanted to share it here to get more discussion because it is important. I’m hoping that this post won’t crowd out any voices, and while I’ve tried to keep this post productive and inclusive, please call out any concerns and use the post if you prefer :)...

I thought about this already for a while and with Lemmy and Mastodon the opensource community has a place to really try itself out and coordinate. Then even things like open-source planning-systems (like at Amazon) and AIs are possible....

I always used old.reddit.com with RES on my desktop. I’ve started using old.lemmy.world now, and I love the familiarity, but I realize how much I miss RES. I wish there was something for the old.lemmy.world that offered the same enhancements.

Are there any paid services for either Lemmy or Mastodon? Something where, given it is a subscription service, you would expect them to stick around long-term?

I read on reddit that on Lemmy you can see users’ upvote/downvote history. I therefore expected to be able to see upvote/downvote breakdown by user for my own comments. But couldn’t find this. Does this feature exist or is that a myth?

With Threads/Meta heading for the fediverse, and Tumblr looking at ActivityPub, how would you feel if Reddit decided to add support and federate Kbin & Lemmy?...

To explore instances (including Beehaw) without restrictions, I created this instance. To be listed on join-lemmy.org, my instance should have at least 5 active users, according here. So would any 4 people consider signing up? The instance host is lemy.lol....

Regardless of the negative aspects, Meta joining the Fediverse will definitely make the numbers of active users explode. This will probably bring the network and its concepts to many people and also a matter of public debate.

I notice often people might cross post something and say (for instance) cross posted from lemmy.ca/post/1916492 (random example which is the link that I just followed)...

I’m trying to figure out how to get the comments of a post given a link to it using ActivityPub....

Is this a singular occurrence for me, or is it prevalent across the instance?...

I get the idea of instances, like you can make your own and this is good for privacy. But some lemmy instances are much more popular and this in fact makes it another Reddit. If there are separate instances for niche topics, why not make it another community inside a larger instance?

I’ve wanted a badge that shows the instance uptime and couldn’t find any, so I created one. It’s available at uptime.lemmings.world/{your-domain}.svg and gets its data from fediverse.observer....

We have a bunch of instances hosting basically the same images multiple times. Using IPFS we could increase the availability of images for users with almost no cost to instances. I have heard rumors that pict-rs can’t be easily scaled up due file system based storage and would need a rewrite....

Someone linked a site that lets you search all the Lemmy communities but I lost the link. IIRC it presented all the communities in a tile based layout.

Not sure if this is the right place, or if it’s been done before but:...

As a new user to all these sites, I’m confused about they interact with each other. For example, on Lemmy, I can view a Mastodon account, but I can’t view that account’s posts. This makes sense, as sorting your home feed by “all” could hypothetically result in your feed getting flooded by popular Mastodon posts....

I've spent more than 7 years in Mastodon, and in my experience, new users always come in with a Twitter mindset, then getting a cultural shock because they come to Mastodon expecting a Twitter experience and end up finding something strange and bizarre....

I’m currently using Memmy for Lemmy, Mammoth and Ice Cubes for Mastodon, and the official Pixelfed beta....

Mods can you please make a feature so that the upvote given to a crosspost goes to , both the crossposted post , and the orignal post?...

Either its no concern for the Lemmy community, then it should stay because it may be an issue for the fediverse in whole or its a concern then it shouldn’t be deleted.
