As a new user to all these sites, I’m confused about they interact with each other. For example, on Lemmy, I can view a Mastodon account, but I can’t view that account’s posts. This makes sense, as sorting your home feed by “all” could hypothetically result in your feed getting flooded by popular Mastodon posts....

So I have set up my own Mastodon instance and it’s empty. What should I do to fill up my instance with content? And how do I do that other users of Mastodon on other instances see my “tweets” on my instance?
If an instance were to leave the fediverse do we loose all its data? Say for example iPad Lenny.ml domain was seized or was forced to shutdown so we loose all communities from that host?
