For-profit tech companies like #Threads and #Flipboard are beginning to implement #ActivityPub, and that's been causing a lot of chaos lately. Thus, I've found it helpful to take a step back, consider what it is about the fediverse that I value, and think about whether federation with these large platforms will bring us closer...

If you are interested in sharing book recommendations with other, or just manage your books, then bookwyrm is great for that! The .world team also has a bookwyrm instance up and running at bookwyrm.world with a community here on lemmy as well at !bookwyrm. Seems to have fixed some of the federation issues (some instances still experience some, but that probably needs to be investigated by the local admins)

When I join threadiverse (summer 2023), soon everyone was talking about Threads and how it was about to destroy the whole thing....

Well, so as the thing says, I’ve updated the software a lot, comissioned an artist for a logo and now is not a hell to install.

The Fediverse - especially the microblogging side of it - has deep issues when it comes to environmental sustainability....

So, I know that my project fediverser has received quite a bit of criticism and its flagship instance alien.top has been quite controversial, but I hope that this update will help people understand the whole project better, which is more than “just yet-another repost bot”....

A blog post I made about my experience on Kbin, what I like about it, and some of the challenges I still face in using it. Any feedback would be appreciated as someone who is still new to blogging. Thanks.

I have just deployed a script and a mastodon bot which attempt to hashtag lemmy posts so that they are better discoverable in microblogging services....

Julia Evans (@bork) writes about her experience of running and using a single-person Mastodon server. The post also links to other people’s experiences in-between.

The Verge and 404 Media are building out new functions that would allow them to distribute posts on their sites and on federated platforms – like Threads, Mastodon and Bluesky – at the same time. Replies to those posts on those platforms become comments on their sites.
