Pixelfed, an alternative to Instagram, has matured over the years. One of its biggest, most powerful features is about to touch down - federated groups. And it will be compatible with Lemmy and Kbin.
In essence, what woud you say lemmy is? A way to have all your old forum subscriptions in one place in the form of communies?...
I have a fair amount of experience with data visualization, analysis etc and thought it would be a fun project to try to visualize the Lemmy network, specifically which instances have strong links to one another via subscriptions from users in one to communities in the other....
I’ve noticed a lot of people complain that niche communities aren’t really all that present here or are difficult to find. Having some consolidated in specific instances is very helpful for discovery as well as spreading the federation around....

The dev is looking at using this compatibility to migrate their instance over to the new platform, while allowing the community to use their apps...
I don’t quite understand a lot of the details on how the implementations work....
Hey! So, TL;DR, we’ve been putting in a lot of work to make a podcast for the Fediverse, to go along with our news articles. There’s just so much cool stuff happening, and we feel that a podcast format can capture aspects of this that regular articles can’t....

When Meta launched their new Twitter competitor Threads on July 5, they said that it would be compatible with the ActivityPub protocol, Mastodon, and all the other decentralized social networks in the fediverse "soon"....
FYI!!! In case you start getting re-directed to porn sites....
A lot of people have talked about the possibility of forking Mastodon to get the many improvements their communities need. Making such an effort successful is another discussion entirely.
I went to login to my mbin (previously kbin) account today for the first time in a few weeks, and I was greeted with an image that indicates the assets of teacup.social had been seized. teacup.social...

Seven years later, Kyle’s argument is that AirSpace has turned into what he now calls Filterworld, a phrase he uses to describe how algorithmic recommendations have become one of the most dominating forces in culture, and as a result, have pushed society to converge on a kind of soulless sameness in its tastes.
