Old Man And The Sea
I finally read “Old Man and the Sea”. I have tried to start it many times, but the beginning was just so slow. Has anyone here read it? What are your thoughts on this Ernest Hemingway classic?

I hate it, they translate a book and decide that they want to sell it twice so they split it into two. They did it with every book of A Song of Ice and Fire and yesterday I’ve discovered they also did it with To Sleep in a Sea of Stars. I hate paying twice for one book.
I’ve been on a spy fiction kick recently- I really enjoyed the recent The Man from UNCLE movie and I Expect You to Die video game. I’m looking for some novels that are in a similar vein (classic 60s spy versus an egomaniac villain out to take over the world). However, I cannot stand the sexism in Ian Fleming’s books....
I’ve been a huge fan of the movies since they first came out but didn’t read the books until the beginning of this year. I just wasn’t a reader until recently. I’ve been yearning for some more fantasy but haven’t been able to find anything similar. I tried The Silmarillion but it reads too much like a textbook to me....
My favorite is the Gormenghast Trilogy by Mervyn Peake
I’ve recently started a job driving a shuttle van across the city for the general public. I’ve got a wide amount of leeway, but the audiobooks I’ve been listening to have been… not hitting right. I started with “The Name of the Wind” which was extremely well reviewed. I liked it a lot for the most part, and for the...

Mort is a funny, heartwarming introduction to Death, one of the major Discworld characters. It starts off with Death deciding to take on an apprentice, Mort. Turns out, Death loves curry, has an adopted daughter, Ysabell, and gets REALLY UPSET and VERY ANGRY indeed when people harm or kill cats and kittens. And he rides a horse...
These are all the books I have read either at work or home during 2023. To add to the list, I am going include the audiobooks I have listened to this year....
I remember reading the series in sixth grade for an assignment and falling in love with them and try to read them at least once a year....
I have been reading Finnegans Wake over the course of this year, a few pages a day, along with a group over on reddit. It is one of the very few things that still keeps me visiting reddit at all....
I would like to know what caused the Great Depression and how the world recovered from it. Do you know any good books on this subject?
I am reading The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky (P&V translation). About 20% through. It’s starting to get interesting as the characters start to take shape. Till now I have read and enjoyed the P&V translations of both Crime and Punishment and Demons. This is a huge book and I am looking forward to enjoying this for...

How do you guys read books that you don’t feel like reading?...
Hello, I’m trying to find a book that I read a long time ago about a man who turned invisible because cosmic radiation hit his electric blanket while he was asleep. I’ve tried googling and chat GPT and neither of them turned up any results. Does this book sound familiar to anyone?
Are people using Bookwyrm? Who are some people to follow on Bookwyrm?
I’ve had this reoccurring thing every year or so where I remember this book I read in like 5th - 6th grade that was really fucking good every year or so. I need to find it, I try every time but no amount of Googling thin recollections of its plot has got me anywhere.
