if you have a link to a gif you can insert gifs anywhere with ![] (link)
what is litterally the same as for pictures.
you can use it like this:
![] (media.tenor.com/…/pigeons-spinning.gif)

catbox.moe is quite popular as host. If you want to upload animated images directly to lemmy, they have to be in webp format (you can convert videos for example using this tool, depending on the size this will take quite some time).

Imgur. I don’t use their social-media-esque features so I don’t care what the platform is like. I used a burner yahoo email to sign up, so they don’t have anything I care about. Just make sure when you share a link, you don’t share the page link. Instead, right click the image and click ‘copy image link’.

My burner account doesn’t work anymore and to sign up now you need to sign in with Facebook or Google which I’m not doing.
