I couldn’t find the button to follow hashtags on the official app, but it’s there on Moshidon.

bumblebird , in What's your Google Maps open-source replacement?

My go to is mapy.cz You can download regional maps for offline use, it is intuitive to use, good for seeking out cycling routes and builds on openstreetmap data.

Just a heads up if you’re using Jerboa and switch to a FOSS keyboard: github.com/dessalines/jerboa/issues/194

TL;DR: AOSP keyboard (and maybe also OpenBoard too) may have some glitches when entering text in Jerboa. If you do change to another keyboard, you might test that and add a comment to that issue to help with finding the root cause.

specificity , in Marques Brownlee reviews the Nothing Phone 2

I was bummed about this episode of Dope Tech. He had the professional video tech which wasn’t a consumer product, then the sponsored segment, and finally the Nothing phone 2 - which hasn’t changed all that much.

FalseDiamond ,
@FalseDiamond@sh.itjust.works avatar

Insanely clickbait title too, when the NP2 is barely 1/4th of the video and only a “design reveal”.

darkkite ,

sponsor block skipped ⅔ of the video and thought it was a bug

spaduf ,

Honestly this is why I could never get into him. I feel like he also tends towards a lot of anti consumer takes for a product reviewer.

damnYouSun ,

I feel like he never really reviews products and just read the spec sheet. There are much better tech reviews and they’re perfectly capable of producing flashy visuals as well so there’s no real point to him.

Hemi03 ,

Dope video shots, but no real substance, content wise

Fun fact: Steve Huffman (Reddit CEO) is an investor of Nothing Phone

The nothing phone never got me really excited

The concept was neat but not great.

Framework laptop remains my new hope for the future of laptops tho.

specificity ,

I’m with you. Framework repairable/upgradeable laptops are super exciting. For a while, I thought they had a phone in development. Is that still a thing?

puppy ,

Fairphone is already doing it.

highfiveconnoisseur ,

I have a framework laptop. It is awesome. I would recommend it to anyone!

AbidanYre ,

Phoneblocks/Project Ara wanted to do that with phones but it wasn’t actually viable at the time.

Interstellar_1 ,
@Interstellar_1@pawb.social avatar

Fairphone is doing something like this

shitescalates ,

Ara was viable technically, but isnt profitable enough for major companies to be interested.

ouzkse , in What's your email client of choice?

Used Gmail for a long time, 2 weeks ago switched to Outlook and simply amazed. It’s easy to use, doesn’t show you any ads unlike Gmail. And keep tracking the mails is much more enjoyable compared to Gmail. I believe it can do more of that if rules can be applied to Google mail accounts.

ggnoredo , in What's your Google Maps open-source replacement?

Magic Earth (not FOSS), such an underrated app

ratata , in What's your Google Maps open-source replacement?

FOSS turn-by-turn is unfortunately not great. I like the proprietary app HERE, because it works well for turn-by-turn, is based in Europe and has a privacy policy that fits on one page

zpiritual ,

Which is the old and excellent nokia maps built in navteq GPS tech they bought like 15 years ago. I used it on and off for a while but started using openstreetmap based services eventually.

cmder , in What's your Google Maps open-source replacement?

Not FOSS but MagicEarth works pretty well and they are privacy friendly.
