Then it means you have a 5g signal, it’s just that the data connection that comes with it is very bad / non-existent. Unfortunately, if the signal exists, many phones won’t bother to also check for working data.
I know some phones can do that in order to toggle between cellular and wifi data, but not sure if they apply it to cellular modes too. See if there’s any setting about “smart” connectivity. On my Sony it claims to also switch 5g / 4g as needed.
If all else fails I guess you can use a tool like Tasker to periodically ping an external service and toggle cellular mode when you have no data, but that’s pretty crude.
My favorite notes app has been UpNote. Has most of what you’re looking for. Folders (and subfolders), cross device syncing, cross-platform, offline access, and search. It’s also smoother than it’s closest comparison, Zoho Notes and OneNote, each of which had stutters and microlags when I used them, especially as you accumulate more notes. There’s also a lifetime purchase if you don’t like subscriptions.
I have been using smartphones forever and have never had a plan that did not charge extra for this feature… Granted I have always used verizon, so maybe its a verizon thing?
I’ve got three soft keyboards enabled on my phone, to choose between as needed.
Unexpected Keyboard is my default; it’s a perfectly cromulent basic keyboard, that makes all the punctuation, ctrl/fn/esc available for comfy shell work.
When I need to type in non-ascii characters like accented letters, I have AnySoft available. And pwsafe has a soft keyboard in it to let me avoid passing my (exceedingly hard to type, long random) passwords through the clipboard.
I used to have Hacker’s Keyboard in the mix, but Unexpected Keyboard has made it unnecessary.
I’m always looking for an android keyboard that is either only a number pad, or can be configured to show the number pad first by default. I have this one use case, playing farkle mostly, where I like to split screen excel and an image of the rules, and because excel is open split screen the keyboard always opens to letters. It drives me nuts that I cannot force a keyboard to open to a number pad.
Btw update for anyone stumbling upon this: I could not get any of the (unrooted) options working, so sadly I had to resort to the old fashioned “speaker phone call and digital recorder” -method.
Still, I thank you everyone for your suggestions and hopefully future Android versions can get this functionality back.
That’s the homestack widget and it should literally be impossible to have two of those. Can you file a report? Tap on the 3 dots on any of the cards and then tap Report.
Are you trying from your current number? There’s apps like textnow that just let you pick a number and text. Also I have Google voice on an old number I use to have. That has all the same stuff as well.
