I tried the Revanced patch as well, it worked flawlessly, but oh dude, it was still the official reddit app, it was so bad lmao I had been using Boost for about 3 years and honestly there is no point of comparison, 3rd party apps are so much better.
I think you misunderstood, I used the revanced manager to patch Sync so I could continue to use it, not the official app to just remove ads (which would still be an improvement).
Commenting from Kbin on Firefox, where I have to rotate my phone to landscape orientation to read full comments. If I keep it in portrait, some comments will randomly run off the side of my view, and zooming out doesn't help.
It's not perfect. I'm very much hanging in there until some sort of upgrade comes along. Lemmy.world has been unable to get me signed in, so there's that.
Same here on a lower end Samsung, it's fine. IMHO I also think if people flock to apps for just a UI, it can take away some of the motivation to improve a site.
I guess it would if the repair shops respected it. I am using my insurance to get the screen fixed so I have no idea where it ends up. They just have a big disclaimer which mentions that you should make a backup because the phone will most likely be factory reset.
Tried “Memmy” before and right now I like Thunder a bit more. The UI looks cleaner to me, it works well. Good job, I have put it on my phone where I used to have Apollo.
I’m trying it now too, thanks for the comment, but if you’re an ex-Apollo like me, I highly recommend giving a try to Wefwef.app. It’s a web app but you can install it on your screen and looks almost identical to Apollo and feels very much like home. I discovered it today thanks to another comment and I can’t believe this exists.
I have just read about it in a different comment as well, tried it and it does feel a bit like coming home. Thank you for recommending it to me as well, it’s wonderful to see that it gets easier and easier to take part here!
Yeah there is no name that’s good but there is an entire marketing time behind Reddit… those are one men projects where marketing is def not their strength but it’s ok for now
I already see a post from the dev on their community asking how to rename the app so I guess this feedback is coming from a lot of people. Currently "Voyager" is winning and that would be step in the right direction imo.
Is there a reason that the Tasks doesn't work for you? You can make Tasks in the Calendar app and they appear inline with other events, and notifications work as you describe them from what I can tell
Tangentially, does anyone know why we stopped having cool words for different kinds of software? We used to have daemons and wizards. Now everything's an app, and it's lame.
I mean, they are going to be pulling from a similar pool of users. While I agree philosophically that FOSS is better, I can imagine some of the paid features from someone being able to dedicate themselves full time to developing an app may be preferable.
This standardisation has already proven itself for multiple years now, with millions of people using it over on Mastodon. People will get used to it. The “this is unfamiliar and scary to me” reaction goes away as the familiarity develops over time.
Yeah that does make sense now that you’ve laid it out, but at the same time I couldn’t care less about seeing the instance info once I’m subbed to something. Even showing my profile as being @lemmy.world is just cumbersome, lame looking, and ultimately unnecssary for so many users. Could be a useful sorting tool for sure, but it would be cleaner to have the option to hide them altogether, y’know? I’m excited to see what all of the devs do with this new platform!
Well if its opensource anyone can easly get ride of the adds. I agree with you that developers schould be paid but there is many ways to be paid we all fight for privacy and against adds on the internet using adblocks for example i personaly always pay for developers fairemail and typewise to rename few but i dont like to be forced to pay and in between my phone are establishing connections to the adds servers exposing ip addresse connection times and so on adds are not only adds there is a lot of metadata that can be extracted from adds. And finally the purpose of developing opensourse apps is to serve the community with more friendly apps than the big companies offers to us. But… its just me saying that…
