LeBron , in How does everyone feel about Motorola phones?

Great budget devices, if you're in the market for a mid range android I think you can't to wrong with moto

cowvin , in How does everyone feel about Motorola phones?

I had a couple of Motorola phones back in the day. Most recently I had a Moto Z2 Force, which had a shatterproof screen. I really liked that because around then I had my first kid and kids cause accidents all the time. LOL

RST987 , in How does everyone feel about Motorola phones?

I use a Moto G50 5G, my wife use a Moto e32s and most of folks in my work use some kind of Motorola phone. My work phone is also a cheaper Motorola. No dead pixels, charging time is fine, build quality is good. Updates could be pushed more often for the OS. IMO Moto phones are good budget devices, but I don’t see where is the money flowing when buying flagship one. Like the Law of Diminishing Returns is cranked up to 110 for this company.

woozy , in What's the best Lemmy app right now?

thunder looks cool, but just like jerboa it is in early alpha, they can be a bit unstable, for the time being i’ll personally stick to the web browser.

llama , in What's the best Lemmy app right now?
@llama@midwest.social avatar

I put jerboa in the place where I used to have the Sync Pro app mostly just to start coming here out of habit. But a lot of times I end up browsing through chrome because I get a lot of random JSON parse errors in Jerboa. There’s a paid app called Fedilab I’m curious about but it doesn’t seem to work with Lemmy instances yet, I think it’s mostly for Mastodon.

salimundo , in Why do you personally prefer using an Android phone?

This is probably specific to the Pixel phones, not sure how much if any is relevant to other manufacturers.

  1. Call screening and spam filtering is amazing. Having the phone automatically screen unknown callers means I haven’t had to deal with a spam caller in years. And valid callers don’t seem to have any problems understanding whats happening anymore. I used to get several who confused it for a voice mail when it first came out, but now it seems they understand how to leave a screening message and wait for me to pick up.
  2. The phone tree and hold for me when calling businesses. Being able to read the options and click the text makes it so much easier to get through the options without having to really pay attention, then having it hold for me until a person answers lets me do other things instead of having to keep listening.
  3. Song identification on the lock screen. Whether I’m out at a bar or restaurant or at home watching a TV show and a song I like but don’t know starts playing, being able to see exactly what it is without even touching my phone is so convenient. I’ve found so many cool new bands I never would have without this feature. Its also amazing how it can often identify covers made specifically for TV shows right when they first air.
  4. Amazing camera and cool features like photo sphere and the new magic eraser. The camera might not be as head and shoulders above Samsung and Apple as it was in the past but it’s still always amazing how well it does in different conditions.
balance_sheet , in Why do you personally prefer using an Android phone?

Number of reasons

  • F-droid(Basically not having to go through proprietary app store) and apps only on them
  • Multitasking is leaps and bounds better(windowed mode, split screen…)
  • Fingerprint
  • SD card
  • Connect phone on Win11 (I know it’s microsoft but it works great and I don’t ever plan to use Mac
  • Customization, which is basically non-existent in iOS
  • Samsung Dex. It’s a bit more than a gimmik to me.
  • File management. Iphone is a freaking joke

There are some things that iPhone is just better but all those things are things that I can live without.

In Turkey, Apple products are exorbitantly priced due to factors such as exchange rates, taxes, and so on.

hydra , in Mishaal Rahman | On Google dropping support for AOSP Dialer and Messaging App
@hydra@lemmy.world avatar

EDIT: Apparently Lineage has their own dialer anyways so this comment seems invalid

Great, more burden for LineageOS et al while AOSP is getting worse. Google used to share ALL the improvements into AOSP which Nexus used. All the good stuff is now proprietary Google apps that don’t respect you. I still miss AOSP Email and so far nothing replaces it UI wise.

yasuocidal , in Android 14 Beta 13.1 Available

Its still “wiping” data if we go stable after the beta is done?

Stylus2650 , in Why do you personally prefer using an Android phone?

There is a lot more freedom on Android. I want to be able to side load.

Teratai , in What free apps and games are good to put on an android phone?

I'm a big fan of FarmRPG. Semi-idle "numbers go up", mostly text + static images game with a lovely community. It has zero ads and, even though it has a paid currency and some very unoptimized ways to spend it, the game is very generous with it (to the point where I've earned the vast majority of my currency by trading resources). It's a bit janky, but fun.

Shattered Pixel Dungeon is free and great fun. It's a roguelike dungeon exploration game, there are many forks of the original Pixel Dungeon but this is my favorite one. Similar to this is Hoplite, a very short (in the free version) turn-based, almost puzzle-like game where you have to get through monster-filled rooms to proceed. Lots of mechanics that you have to learn to use in order to survive.

For more strategy, seconding Polytopia, as well as Unciv (it even has mods!), which is a Civilization-like game.

For a simple but fun gameplay loop, Alto's Adventure and Alto's Odyssey, where you slide your way down various landscapes. The latter especially adds a lot of fun little tweaks onto the original's formula.

I Love Hue and especially I Love Hue 2 are great "arrange the colors properly" games. Hundreds of levels, no nonsense, solid fun.

clearlyathrowawai , in Apple lock-in is feeling stronger than ever

Recently made the move wholesale from IOS/iPhone Mini/iPad to a Galaxy Fold 4. Wasn’t hard at all tbh, plenty of tools for migration since most stuff is cloud-based. Took maybe a day to settle in. I’m fortunate in that I’m not dependant on icloud and the like though, my password manager is bitwarden, etc.

This is after starting on iPhones about a decade ago in high school. First android was trivial to get used to. I think the “myth” of apple lock-in keeps way more people in the apple ecosystem than lock-in itself.

JustinFTL , in What free apps and games are good to put on an android phone?
@JustinFTL@kbin.social avatar

@QuietStorm not sure if you're into FPS games, but I've sunken obscene amounts of time into Call of Duty Mobile and haven't paid a dime. It's free to play, but they advertise micro transactions to you, which are easily ignored. And I've played it no problem on a $50 Moto e6.

Fubarberry , in What free apps and games are good to put on an android phone?
@Fubarberry@lemmy.fmhy.ml avatar

It’s not free, but Slice & Dice is the best mobile game I’ve ever played. It has a pretty large and good demo that’s worth playing by itself.
