I was a kid in the 70s. I played with toy guns. But this advertising… 😬

Imagine your kids get accustomed to playing with these, then someday they find mom’s real 9mm that looks just like the toy.

octopus_ink OP ,

Easy to imagine. In their rush to make instruments of death less scary looking, they’ve made them less scary looking which seems like a bad thing, to me.

shalafi ,

Got my wife a pink Bersa Thunder for Christmas.

Know why? She doesn’t feel as apprehensive about shooting it, won’t touch my Colt .45 because heavy and black and scary. They kick about the same since the Colt is much heavier.

As I said in another comment, my kids got a lesson on guns that look like toys. Hell, 2 of mine are Tiffany blue. (It matches my kitchen, OK?)

JCreazy ,

That would be irresponsible parenting and irresponsible gun ownership.

Aaaahhhhmurica.

There’s something deep in that culture that I can’t find the words for.

That picture though, pretty much sums it up.

Codilingus ,

I need to look this up. I’d use my actual 1911 .45 but then people I live with would get nervous!

Oh! What kind? I’m a 1911 fanatic. Got a legit Colt .45, RIA .45, .22 and a .22WMR. Next I want an Italian 9mm Star BM. Not a 1911, but kinda close?

Codilingus ,

A Springfield WWII officer replica in blue steel. I need to replace the iron sights though, cause they’re basically unusable sights from WWII.

If I was baller enough my dream would be a Staccato 9mm or similar 2011 double stack. I’m craving a handgun with a red dot mount!

Hobbes_Dent ,

Imagine seeing your kids stock image with those ‘shopped on.

octopus_ink OP ,

Seriously!

Varyk ,

This insane. I had to check if those were real.

They are.

What the fuck.

That’s definitely the how’s it going…in fact…

shalafi ,

We had toy guns in the 70s that absolutely looked real. Hell, I had a BB/dart gun that would pass for a 1911, even up close. Heavy metal too. I have several real guns that weigh less, and worse, some look like toys. The kids got a demonstration of that reality.

“If it’s gun shaped, it’s a gun. Treat it as such.”

Varyk ,

True quote.

Treat it as such

shalafi ,

Thanks. Teaching them gun safety was far easier than I thought. Now they’re hyper-aware of where the muzzle is pointed, though my daughter sometimes slips her finger onto the trigger walking to the target.

In any case, they will not touch a gun unless:

  • We’re at our camp, everyone is visible and aware someone’s shooting.
  • I’m sitting beside or standing behind them.
  • They check that everyone has ear protection. (They caught me twice!)

I also taught them what proper handling looks like; Unloading, showing an empty chamber to the person you’re handing it too, etc. Never know when some asshole friend will break out dad’s super cool pistol and pass it around.

Krauerking ,

It’s ok those kids are all AI generated… So this guy can sell 3D printed fake guns to actual kids.

God I fucking hate it here.

SPRUNT ,

It’s not legal to kill kids, but you can buy 'em a toy gun and then call the cops about suspicious activity in the area…

Can’t wait to see the first incident of a school cop killing a 2nd-grader who was bringing his toy to show-and-tell.

I_Fart_Glitter ,

In the 90’s (before Columbine) making finger guns was an automatic suspension at my elementary school. I can only imagine how things are now.

I will never understand why Americans treat guns as toys.

yokonzo ,

I actually saw this as a printable on thingiverse

DannyBoy ,

I’m not American and I’d love to have one of these.
