well itās not only for US particularly. I just created it because there actually doesnāt exist a single community (at least on LW, I havenāt searched the entire fediverse) to discuss politics, US or global. /c/politics doesnāt currently allow top level posts for discussion or self posts because it is difficult to keep civility.

Old reddit like <2014 use to be a reasonable place where people all along the political spectrum could discuss policy. Thatās really no longer an option because most communities/moderators just donāt want to deal with that, unfortunately that only makes the problem worseā¦
Well sure, the easiest way for them to make a passable ālanguageā was probably just to make a new font. Iirc you can also just talk to them with a droid or a character who knows wookie though.
LWās demographic is too close to the average Redditor. If you want to have an honest attempt at a community that is not going to be taken over by immature Americans in their twenties who will do nothing but yell at each other: please consider creating the community outside of lemmy.world.
Use a more neutral instance (Iād recommend discuss.online) and be more strict about standards of quality discussion. Then you might have something interesting. Otherwise you will just end up with yet-another cesspool.
thank youā¦ I will consider that if this doesnāt go anywhere. Reddit kinda went downhill over the last decadeā¦ it use to be a reasonable place for discussion. I would have thought though that most people that migrated here from Reddit would be slightly more mature since they understand the evil of corporate greed but it seems like lately itās 50/50 on comments now whether youāre going to get personally insulted for blinking wrong.
Itās not just Reddit. Civic debate has completely deteriorated with the rise of Social Media. It amplified everyoneās voices to the point that left drowning in a sea of noise.
I was just in that cave a week ago! I did the Tour that goes about 1km in and it was such a unique and amazing experience that I will probably go back at some point to do a longer tour.
