I watched that episode as a kid and I just now got that joke. Damnit lol

Then you probably haven’t heard of the old sci fi movie Soylent Green that this is also referring to! The food in that movie might also vary from person to person.

I don’t own a car and walk or bike everywhere I need to. I buy clothes and things I need second hand and support local shops when it comes to food and drink. I live in a small apartment/flat and recycle everything I can.

I don’t even care about the state of the world anymore. I’ve given up - the world is fucked. Can’t do anything about it, and I’m doing everything I can - so I’ll just carry on and live my life. Yeah, people will be fucked down the line, but what am I supposed to do more than what I’m already doing?

tegs_terry ,

Talk about it and get angry. Show your sphere of influence how concerned you are; friends and family will pay more attention to you than they will to any scientist, celebrity or politician.

richyawyingtmv ,

Yep, already done. I can do no more.

tegs_terry ,

It’s not a one-off deal, you need to keep talking, or is that what you meant?

Adonnus ,

I'm somewhat in the same boat. I do what I can but now I'm disenfranchised from the whole engagement. I'll continue to be a steward for the environment but don't expect me to be optimistic or angered by the state of affairs.

The real issue is your YouTube algorithm bro. What in the trash tube are you watching?

Jamie ,
@Jamie@jamie.moe avatar

Real trash tube is loading the YouTube homepage in a private browser and scrolling without signing in. Most of the stuff on it I wouldn’t watch while piss drunk.

STRIKINGdebate2 , to futurama in Which of the Professor's inventions would you find most useful?
@STRIKINGdebate2@lemmy.world avatar

The what if machine. The possibilities of that thing are endless. Products could be safety tested without the need for human or animal test subjects. It could be used you to vet political candidates running for office. If you used it for personal use then you could run every possible life decision through it to find the beneficial outcome.

The only downside is that people could literally spend their whole lives asking themselves what if using the what if machine than actually living their lives. Very much like that black mirror episode that featured the device that allowed people to relive all their memories.

averagedrunk ,

The what if machine.

That thing isn’t worth the gold it’s made of. Stephen Hawking in a pizzeria…

I feel like we’re watching zombies slowly lurching towards us, but there’s people pretending it’s totally normal and nothing to worry about.

oktupol ,

And meanwhile a sizeable portion of the people is yelling that the zombie apocalypse is actually a good thing.

Spzi ,

If 2020 Gave Us Zombies Instead Of A Pandemic. It was pretty depressing in realizing how easy we could solve crises, but we can’t, since some politicians prefer talking points, and too many sheep happily follow. And measures against the pandemic were just a temporary inconvenience, while the climate crisis seems to be here to stay, growing stronger every day.

Sad but true. Politicians in general appear to be a spineless lot, appealing only to their corporate donors.
