AnySoftKeyboard good all around keyboard, good language support, decent though messy customizability
Unexpected keyboard more specialized, provides easy access to app (printable) ASCII characters and some others, allrght customizability
8Vim Cool factor, great customizability, decent language support but you need to learn it
Games:
Pirate Solitare nothing much but I’ve been playing it a lot lately
Simon Tathman’s Puzzle Collection a cross platform puzzle collection, has a lot of different puzzles in a uniform style
Antimine minesweeper with nice ui
System:
RethinkDNS: DoH provider and firewall Easy to use, especially nice for those non FOSS apps you need to have to maintain a social life, not that powerful though
Obtainium: FOSS app downloader Downloads apps from releases or equivalent, therefore can have faster updates than fdroid, but no discovery, aside from search on some platforms
ffupdater: FOSS browser downloader Like obtainium, but for browsers (mostly) and has list of browsers
Droid-ify: fdroid client better ui than the default app, comes with a list of repos
Shizuku: ADB shell api not useful if you have root (see SUI, which is the root implementation for the same api, though shizuku will also work I think), but can give a bit more access if you don’t supports wireless debugging on A12+
Neolauncher: launcher nice ui but nothing special
SD Maid SE: storage cleaner okish ui, doesn’t stop me from having 302 (not including system) apps on my device. Yes I have a problem
Package manager: app manager Shizuku support, powerful, though limited if you don’t have root
Inure: app manager [freemium (8$), but GPL licensed?] pretty must like Package manager but with amazing ui
Innertube: YouTube music client doesn’t use piped/invidious, no ads, nice ui
Tusky: mastodon client nice ui, quite stable, multiuser support
Jerboa: lemmy client ok ui, up to date with lemmy updates
Liftoff: lemmy client nicer ui then Jerboa but doesn’t work since .15 (?) and had issues with rendering markdown properly
LibreTorrent bitTorrent client for downloading all those isos and public domain works, nice ui
Misc:
Mull: ff based browser not much to say, “security oriented and deblobbed”, upstreams some features from Tor
Calculator++: A scientific calculator A lot of functionality while remaining easy to use
RPNcalc: A Reverse Polish Notation calculator best RPN calculator I’ve found on fdroid, less powerful than Calculator++, but RPN based calculators are more efficient^[citation needed]^
Simple Apps: suit of apps providing basic functionality great ui and customizability, I don’t use simple keyboard, simple launcher/drawer however
OpenCamera: a camera app advanced features
Just the apps I thought of, as I, as mentioned in the SD Maid entry, have a lot of apps installed :P
After ruining copyright law and borrowing from public domain works, Disney finally loses a property to public domain. An incredible start to the new year!
Catima - for saving arbitrary barcodes and stuff that are hard to integrate into other wallets. I keep my local library card in there, and it works wonderfully
Nonocross - fun little game that has zero frills and distractions. Also very responsive on their github to suggestions and improvements
Termux - when I need to get into things from afar, this is how I do it
Box, Box! - Formula 1 news, schedules, standings, etc
Coffee - Sometimes I want to keep the display awake, so this comes in handy
I like this one, but it’s honestly difficult to play on a phone, for anything but small and easy grids. I had to start using a stylus to be able to hit the right cells with reasonable accuracy, and even then it’s a bit tough. And you lose context when trying to zoom. Maybe better on tablets…
Disney has been using Steamboat Willy in the beginning credits of their shows/movies for a while now. They are attempting to make it a Trademark (since the copyright wouldn’t be extended further). Since Trademarks must be defended, Disney will likely start suing anyone using Steamboat Willy on grounds of Trademark violation.
IP law is literally holding humanity back from progress its so infuriating. It was created with the good intentions for people to be able to profit from their inventions and creativity, but has been bastardized by corporations to have strangleholds on innovations that could benefit all of humanity yet profit matters more than people in this Capitalist hell scape.
I believe copyright was originally a means of censorship to allow the state (monarchs and the church) to control what could be published. It was originally introduced because of the printing press which resulted in much easier distribution of dissenting opinions. It was later reformed into something much more reasonable with the intention of promoting the creation of literature, but is now just a tool to prevent people from having any semblance of ownership. It needs major reform.
Particularly, the abilities for the copyright holder to restrict what can be done with the IP and restrictions strictly non-commercial use. For example, I don’t believe it should be legal for the copyright holder to restrict people from viewing a copyrighted work together by streaming it similar to if they were in the same room in a non-commercial setting.
Trademarks only matter if the intention or effect is to impersonate the business. If you started makeing feature length movies and used Steamboat Willy in the opening to trick customers into thinking it was a Disney movie they might be able to sue, but otherwise trademark doesn’t work that way.
You’re right. But they don’t need to win the legal battle. They just need you to give up (lose) the legal fight. If enough people give up, the rest will stop fighting, and Disney wins the war. They’re rich enough and greedy enough that it can work.
Again, given there is no basis in law for trademark to work that way, Disney would be on the hook for all legal fees and everyone involved would know it. Throwing money at lawyers in hopes of dragong things out into a settlement doesn’t work when there isn’t any question of who will win.
No, I run Linux at home for most things but keep a Windows 10 install for certain games and I work in IT in an Apple/Windows environment.
I really don’t think Windows is that bad, sure it’s got some aging design choices that never get updated like settings and control panel being a half assed attempt at upgrading, but overall most of the complaints I hear about it are just misunderstandings by Linux absolutists.
