I was prepared to almost defend them if the photo had been of the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, since he has more de facto power in Vietnam than the President does and you can kinda see how that mistake would have been made. Even then it would have been an awful blunder that someone whose literal job is to represent his country to the leaders of other countries shouldn’t be making (and neither should his PR team), but you could follow how it happened.
But it’s not even that. It’s the Chairman of the National Assembly. The equivalent of the US Speaker of the House. Pretty indefensible blunder.
This is a massive diplomatic error from the US government. In fact, it came from the US government Twitter handle @POTUS. Just because an aide made the issue doesn’t make this issue not reflect poorly on the US.

I get what you are saying, but I would expect whoever runs the US President’s social media accounts to understand that ‘President’ is a figurehead position in a lot of countries. Our President probably has less actual power than our PM, Speaker, (federal) ministers and even the Vice-President.
I mean, I’m watching Righteous Gemstones right now and loving it for what I thought was just a funny fictional show.
Then I learned that even celebrities still share stuff to social media about supporting these rich fucking leeches. Nothing surprises me anymore. People don’t think about the climate or Earth’s finite resources or ecological collapse. School will never be as interesting as a phone. Your teacher will never be as entertaining as an influencer. Your textbooks will never be as entertaining as your feed. What families and teenagers have to understand is that education is a choice. If you want to learn, you’ll probably have to put your phone down for long periods of time to actively listen and learn. It’s difficult. It tires you out. It’ll frustrate you. But you will eventually learn.
Then again - when I look at home prices and inflation, I understand young people’s feelings of futility.

I don’t think it’s just a feeling of futility - it’s true phones can be distracting and offer more potential entertainment, and it’s true learning can sometimes be a slog. At the same time, learning can be fun and engaging, and phones can offer access to a wealth of information (of highly varying quality, admittedly).
Concentrating too hard on mere academic success as gauged by metrics like school grades is undoubtedly discouraging for a student who only goes to school if they are told they must.
Tiktok cannot do it better. Tiktok is an app designed to hold attention. If you are more engaged by cat videos than geometry tiktok will not try and show you geometry
that would just be a new app and why would tiktok cooperate with that. There isn’t as much money in that area and even if there was an educational app kids would go on tiktok instead of it
people learn things all the time despite phones existing. the issue is not solely being more entertaining. people need to find their learning meaningful and aligned with their own interests and goals. students don’t, and so they go on their phones. go to a college classroom and you’ll see people more engaged on average. still far from perfect, and that system is broken in many ways too, but people are at least studying something they chose and are presumably interested in.

I think you're missing the point. It's that they built it to begin with. And it's not always enclosed. Stadiums exist all over that aren't air conditioned and don't close. It's the level of effort to overcome the heat. Yet we still can't air condition damn Amazon warehouses or UPS trucks. Both of those have had folks pass out from heat.
Oh we can, those corporations choose not to. The stadium owner has an incentive to ac the stadium since a more pleasant temperature is likely to attract and please most customers. Amazon is working with a captured market and people who, alone and individually, don’t have any power. From Amazon’s perspective and a capitalist viewpoint they’re doing the most legally required to continue to make profit. They don’t have an incentive to change as people continue to buy their products and the government refuses to step in and help exploited workers, even going to far as to ignore the blatant union busting from Amazon and others when the individuals do try to group together and assert leverage.
