snowyday Bot , to nostupidquestions in Can I view a list of the communities of a lemmy instance while logged into my own?

Thanks for asking this. Until I read your question, I didn’t realize it but I had been wondering the same

TWeaK ,

Try lemmyverse.net/communities

If you set your home instance, all the links for communities will take you to your instance’s version of that comm.

Nemo ,

Finally, a real answer. Thanks!

Rentlar , to moviesandtv in Have you noticed how movies are getting longer?

20 years ago, give or take 10, VHS video tapes were a major form factor for films and entertainment at home. Of course you could record for 8 hours at trash quality but you could get 2 hours at better quality. So to best accommodate films for VHS they cut them down to 2 hours max (118 mins was a frequent runtime for adult movies and 88 mins for kids movies).

I’m admittedly playing Honkai: Star Rail, and do so daily, although I’m just waiting for new story content so it’s just dailies.

besides that, I’ve been thinking of playing Pillars of Eternity, and hoping it would click for me this time. I struggle with focusing on one game, and will normally skip around, but I want to get better about that.

lastly, I’m really wanting to get Baldur’s Gate 3, and Jagged Alliance 3. I know BG3 isn’t out of early access yet, so I’m waiting, but Jagged Alliance 3 looks fun af, and I’ve heard lots of good things from a family member about the series.

SeaOtter , to technology in Bitwarden or Proton Pass

Recently found Bitwarden from a Lemmy recommendation. I have been very satisfied thus far.

Integrates with Safari & Arc on MacOS, Edge & Chrome on work PC, & Safari on iPhone and iPad.

vilna OP , to technology in Bitwarden or Proton Pass

Both are open source. I will use the free version. Proton pass seems to have a UI more polish.

binom ,

i trust proton quite a lot, but the open source part seems to be only partially true. on their github, i can only find client side code (ie. browser extensions, mobile apps), not the server code, which bitwarden does publish

andrewta , to nostupidquestions in Is it worth paying the reaminder of my car loan off?

If you need to take out another loan for something else then pay it off. So you have less debt on the books. Otherwise just keep the loan. It’s zero interest

That’s a good answer, Just hope we can get it to have useful information bringing more people onboard.

I personally slap pop-shell and flypie radial menu on it, and I really love it

wgs , to selfhosted in What do you recommend to selfhost code repositories?
@wgs@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

I use stagit. It runs whenever I push code to a repo, and then serves everything as static HTML pages.

It only provides a web interface for git repos though, and for the master branch.

Trains and short range motor bikes or human powered bikes can definitely replace cars. The problem is the city needs to be designed for it. It can’t replace it in most places in the US because all infrastructure has been biased towards cars for more than 100 years. But if you imagine a city built from the ground up with trains and bikes in mind it is completely doable.

It’s going to take another century to undo the car centric society we have built in the US.

I prefer proton pass since I pay for proton and get access to everything so it’s convenient and it makes alias emails for me. It’s usually better not to keep all your eggs in one basket though.

flamingmongoose , to gaming in Outer Wilds and BOTW/TOTK

I desperately want to play Outer Wilds but that would involve spending money on modern machine

julianh OP ,

You have a console? It’s available on most of them (and eventually the switch… probably…)

flamingmongoose ,

Yeah just a switch haha. They announced that port a good while ago and not a lot has come of it

@Leon@beehaw.org avatar

if you ever end up getting a steam deck, outer wilds runs well on it. you won’t get 60fps on highest settings or anything but I played through the whole thing with the frame rate limited to 45 and it was a great experience.
