Whatever comes with mint? I had a hard drive die, and my buddy hooked me up when I realized I couldn’t read the windows key on the sticker any more. He was going to do some kind of fuckery to let me keep 7 despite that, but he’d been talking about Linux for a few years, so I asked what he thought about that.
He asked me a few questions, about what kind of programs I need to use, and when none of them were a pain in the ass for an idiot like me to deal with, he set it up for me. Told me it was mint, helped me set things up where they look nice and made sure I have what I need. Haven’t fucked with anything since, and that was about two years ago.
Not capitalism, but hating on corporations and on unregulated capitalism. Imagine having one commercial entity more powerful than many of the states in the world, then having them abuse that kind of power given by money to supress the rights of people in the weaker states. The government should act as a staunch and uncorruptible protector of the people against these kind of big economic legal or illegal entities
If you’re arch-curious but want something more opinionated and out-of-the-box, you could have a look at manjaro. It gets much shit thrown its way because its both try-hard (being arch based) and simultaneously “just works”, but that’s mostly memes
Yeah. Lots of people give it shit, but it does really “just work”. I’m using endeavor right now and considering swapping back to Manjaro, mostly because I cannot for the life of me figure out why SMB won’t work. Manjaro is the only distro I’ve had it work properly with little to no effort.
How does loading up a game through steam work with that? I’m a big fan of Sway (and i3) but I don’t use them on gaming focused systems at all, so I’m curious.
Mostly just fine with i3 my experience. Sometimes I have to move the game window to a different workspace if I want to interact directly with steam, or whatever else I have in the same workspace that I launched the game in, because it keeps forcing it self exclusive/full screen. In some instances, depending on the game, that might mess things up (crash, freeze, missing/stuck mouse cursor), but most of the time it works just fine.
If you have little Linux experience it makes no sense to use a niche distribution. You have a lot less people to ask for help, you will find less documentation and support and you will be frustrated really fast, because your niche distribution is doing something different than everyone else, which will break something and you cannot repair it. If you are a beginner go with one of the big ones.
I had 130K+ karma, and after my eighth "permaban," I decided to stop fighting it. I pissed off a couple of power mods, and they began abusing the report function. Calling them out by name got me "unbanned" every single time, but I'm done at this point.... Reddit is dying, and I don't care.
You got permabanned eight times AND got unbanned seven times - how the hell did you manage that? I’ve been permabanned exactly once, and havent managed to get unbanned despite several appeals. How did you work out who had you banned? I cant see it in my case
It was a certain turtle, so it wasn't hard to figure out. And yeah, I'm on eight at this point. Even if I was interested in fighting the good fight again, with the way things are going over there, he'll be back in power in no time. I'm done with that nonsense; I'll go back to Fark if I have to.
Yeah, after several appeals to rationality regarding a permaban for posting a Google Streetview link of a public layby I’m done with it too, and I dont see reddit having a long term future anyway the way it is going. The fediverse is great so far and growing strongly, so I’ll stick around here
KDE on my desktop, GNOME on my laptop. I like both, but I like to tinker more on my desktop, where I have good internet and can do a bunch of downloading and customization comfortably at my desk. With my laptop I want it to just work (and I hate KDE’s defaults) so I use a mostly vanilla GNOME. Also has good trackpad integration so that’s a bonus as well.
I did have a heavily kitted out Arch with XFCE on my laptop before, but I reinstalled my OS because something broke and it wouldn’t boot and I couldn’t be bothered to troubleshoot and just wanted a working laptop lol so I installed Endeavour with GNOME and have been happy
The best way is to just delete you account and stop using Reddit completely. Any traffic to Reddit is seen as a win for them as it keeps their active users up which is what they use to court advertisers.
Just let Reddit and it’s users live over there while we have our own good thing going here. Same goes for Twitter and Meta too.
That game once crashed my system to busybox. Are you running it on steam? if yes then verify local files and if that doesnt work then go to properties then go to compatibility and check the “force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool” button. this will re download the game but the windows version and run it through a proton version of your choice.
