Rick_C137 OP , to linux in Recursive execute(x) required to enable nginx to read a directory !?? [ SOLVED ]
@Rick_C137@programming.dev avatar

Thank you all !

Indeed setting execute perm on example, sub1, sub2, static

The program/user have now access to the directory.

In order words all the parents directory need at least execute in order to have access in the targeted directory…

Now I gave 751 for static. Meaning than others (here nginx) cannot list the files within. But never the less it works
the static files are appearing when requested (HTTP) but forbidding nginx to list the directory is changing something ? (performance/security)

Thanks

Greet them first. Move on with your day.

They’re starting at you because you’re attractive, but also too crazy to befriend.

If this was a single occurrence, I’d try not to read too much into it. Maybe they were discussing something private and got all weird when interrupted. Maybe the greeting was non-verbal and you missed the cue. If it’s the beginning of the day, they might not be all awake yet, I dunno.

But if it’s a pattern, or this ever happens and it bothers you, you can try to make the most of it. Imagine they wished you their fondest greetings in a Muppets style voice. It costs you nothing and you can’t change anyone else’s behaviour anyway, might as well do something to put a smile on your face.

lmaydev , to asklemmy in how can I stop feeling offended when coworkers don't return my greetings?

Your options are essentially to deal with it or ask them what’s up.

Personally I wouldn’t waste time with co-workers who are being rude.

They could be jealous of your position for some reason or taken offense to something random you did. They may just be assholes.

At the end of the day you’re there to work and if it doesn’t affect that I wouldn’t bother.

If they are increasingly hostile maybe have a quiet word with HR.

rockSlayer , to asklemmy in how can I stop feeling offended when coworkers don't return my greetings?

Is it possible that they greeted you nonverbally since they were already in a conversation?

Don’t let it get to you. They’ll come around if you keep up the positive vibes. You’re also new, so you’ll be learning the behaviors of people you barely know. It’s also possible that these folks are quite friendly, but maintain a strict focus when they aren’t taking a break. There are a million different reasons why they didn’t verbally respond, so don’t take it personally.

The way I greet people at work is a basic “hey” and wave as I walk by, if they don’t seem too busy. If they respond I hear it, if they wave I’ll hopefully see it, and if they do nothing then I’ve already walked past them.

Sina , (edited ) to linux in Is anybody else a bit disappointed about the recent days with Fedora Atomic?

You are completely right, they’ve dropped the ball. Of course it’s open source, so the devs are not duty bound to keep the system running well. it’s just that my trust is shaken that I could just set up grandma’s computer with this and not need to maintain it…

These days even Apple and Microsoft struggle with testing their updates and pushing out updates that are not broken or system breaking. Maybe the grans of the world should just become more tech savvy. ;)

Then again if long term Fedora immutable systems only fail like this once every two years, then we are not really worse than needing to deal with Windows Rot.

It’s not an arcade-style game by any means, but I can’t recommend “Sky: Children of the Light” enough! My partner and I have been playing it daily for over 4 years and still can’t get enough of it. It’s hard to give it a proper description. It has a beautiful storyline with new seasonal stories that come out every 3 months or so. You play as a child of light whose mission is to banish darkness and shepherd spirits from a post-apocalyptic land into the stars. However, the real core of the game is the social aspect. It’s mmo-adjacent (typical server sizes are 8 players) with other players showing up as other children of light. You slowly make friendships using in-game currency and gifting each other friendship levels. You cannot chat with others at first and must communicate through a variety of emotes until you unlock chat in the friendship tree. The way communication and friendship is handled in the game makes it one of the most friendly and least toxic communities that I’ve found on the Internet. It’s also cross-play and cross-save between Android, iOS, Switch, PlayStation, and Steam. That Sky Game

Sina , to linux in Question: If windows is required, what distro do you recommend?

Basically it doesn’t matter if you can use the webapps.

Mint is the best traditional noobie distro, while I would suggest Silverblue, if you just want to use a robust system that requires far less maintenance effort than a traditional distribution with limitations that may are may not affect you at all.

Peglin is super fun. It’s wood-described as a peggle rouglike

Fancade is also great. It’s an open engine for little arcade games, so there’s always something new to play. There’s different modes like an adventure mode and a battle mode. There are IAP’s but they’re purely optional and very unnecessary.
