vodkasolution , to nostupidquestions in When a medicine asks you to "take with food" how much food is enough?

Once I had a wisdom tooth making me crazy and the pharmacist told me that one course (I’m Italian, he said a dish of pasta) would help, nothing less

volvoxvsmarla ,

Wait so you had to eat pasta to ease the pain or did he also recommend some pain relief medicine?

vodkasolution ,

Lol, sorry, eating pasta would have helped the painkillers do their job!

ovalofsand , to asklemmy in Men in their 40s, what’s one piece of advice for men in their 20s?

Compatibility is probably the most important quality to look for in a romantic partner.

Where do you live and what’s your ideal temperature?

HK65 , to pcgaming in Which game made you realize PC was superior platform to Console (or/and viceversa)?

Simulator games. The whole RTS genre.

A lot of deep genres are impossible to port to work with a controller. Sadly, this nowadays means that a lot of those games don’t see a lot of good entries.

Mango , to pcgaming in Which game made you realize PC was superior platform to Console (or/and viceversa)?

Probably the original Call of Duty. Mouse aim is just easy mode!

ProdigalFrog , (edited ) to asklemmy in TV nerds: what should I watch

Turn from AMC is really excellent if you’re into revolutionary war spy rings! Excellent writing and acting.

I would also second Andor, fantastic show. Peaky Blinders is another good one, though try not to binge it, I think it’d be much better if watched less avidly.

Kongar , to piracy in How to rip copy-protected DVDs on Linux in 2024

I use makemkv. Works every time. Once in a while you have to open the disk “manually” and select the right track but ya, makemkv does it all.

Free if you want to update the beta trial key every few months. After years of use I bought a lifetime license for like $20. Probably the best value I’ve ever gotten.

NoneYa ,

I just tried using this last night for the first time on some indie movie from the early 2000’s. Surely no type of hard DRM to crack.

But when I finished, the movie was very pixelated.

I converted DVD to ISO file and then the app converted the ISO to mkv file all using default settings. Is that okay or should I have changed some of the settings?

Does makemkv work well in wine?

Vilian , to linuxmemes in Have you tried NixOS?

One thing that no-one tested is the overhead of all the sandbox, like, each module, lybrary of program run in a sandbox(some times they tweak the source code not need the sandbox) so I wanted to see the overhead of all of that

ivn ,

It build in a sandbox, but it’s not run in a sandbox.

Vilian ,

I don’t understand, if you run a program inside the sandbox and the program ask for a library, the kernel need to map the library from inside the sandbox to the program, that overhead that I’m talking about

ivn ,

But it’s not run in a sandbox. I’m not sure where you get this from.

Laser ,

This is not how NixOS works. Programs directly link against libraries in the store. There is no sandbox by default when running the binaries.

That’s not what it feels like to your shower though.

Haven’t tried it on Linux recently, but MakeMKV still supports Linux apparently. You have to build it yourself though.

Counterstrike and day of defeat mods.

Getting a whole new game for free was something out of this world at that time.

  • If you need medical care, get fucking medical care. Seriously. It will get worse if you ignore it, whatever “it” happens to be.
  • Following the above, have at least one trusted advocate (partner, family member, friend, doesn’t matter) who can explain any chronic issues, typical medications, etc., and who can and will advocate on your behalf with medical professionals in e.g., a hospital setting as and when necessary.

Most games that have free online play 😌

rhythmisaprancer , to nostupidquestions in what is with child names like Aiden, Braiden etc?
@rhythmisaprancer@moist.catsweat.com avatar

I understand the pushback against names like this, and concern for kids receiving these names, but I think it is misdirected. Ya, sure, maybe sometimes the name is literally made up, or in other cases has multiple variations on a theme, but anyone with immigration in their ancestry can tell you that naming conventions do not always move well to other countries. In the USA, we have multiple spellings for names like Muhammed and Dermitt because of this. I don't see why this is a big deal and think it potentially enriches culture.
