There’s some nice people here and reasoned discussion, but there is a dog pile mentality sometimes that’s way worse than reddit ever was. And it was bad enough.

wewbull , (edited ) to asklemmy in TV nerds: what should I watch

If you like the character-plqy of GoT and don’t mind a smaller story (i.e. a single conflict rather than a world at war) then I think House of the Dragon is great. I know some are finding the pacing slow, but I’m really enjoying all the 2 or 3 character scenes where it’s all about the dialogue.

Edit: another I’ve not seen in the thread is “The Great”, which styles itself as “A sometimes true story”. A comedy drama based on Katherine the Great’s rise to power in 18th Century Russia - Huzzah! Written by the same writer that did the oscar winning “The Favourite”.

It’s a federation of servers with individual communities, so if a server/community is toxic stop participating in it and find or start an alternative. But most communities are tiny to small.

Edit: spelling

When they make the ‘news,’ subs this way… It has a real impact.

A bad one.

Phineaz ,

Eh, avoid “News” and “Politics” servers like lemmy.world - it’s really a US-centric community and you know how these are (the server in itself is fine, don’t get me wrong). Also, avoid the .ml community. Period.

originalucifer , to asklemmy in Is the purpose of Lemmy to bully out people who disagree in any way?
@originalucifer@moist.catsweat.com avatar

before ya go, 'lemmy' is a software package used by many, many different server-instances with their own moderation levels. its not a 'site' so much as an ecosystem.

for example, youve posted this to lemmy.ml, one of the most heavy handed of the instances with regards to moderation. you should try out other instances like lemmy.world or even other products that get you the same data with less moderation (https://moist.catsweat.com)

youve just dipped your foot in the pool, dont leave because of a few mosquitos

Misinformation on news, and any person that tries to corrects it gets bullied outta there… ain’t a small thing though.

I would say that is quite a big thing. Specifically.news subs.

I think I was on world but still figuring it out. Thanks!

@JoMiran@lemmy.ml avatar

You were just given the correct answer but you are too butthurt to hear it. Lemmy isn’t a site. Lemmy isn’t run by a single corporate overlord with homogenous rules. Lemmy is just software and part of an ecosystem that is comprised of many different instances. What you are saying equates to “People reacted poorly to my tweet. Why is HTTP so toxic?!?”.

If you want a safer version of Lemmy, try Beehaw.org. If you want a bigger server that is closer to Reddit, try lemmy.world.

EDIT: Autocorrect sucks.

wrt the “”“misinformation”“” you called out:

When a cop feels unsafe you should flop bonelessly to the ground so they can establish dominance, it’s the only way to survive.

ImpressiveEssay OP ,

Literally just lots of people making stuff up.

In that example that she wasn’t touching the pot of boiling water when he shot and many more.

mosiacmango , (edited )

They told her go move the pot of water, so she complied. The murder was across the room, and only when lightly rebuked did he opt to pull his gun and charge toward her, shouting that he would “put a fucking bullet in her face.”

She immediately started apologizing and dropped to the ground. The murderer then fired 3 shots at her, with one piercing her face and throat.

Since the murderer illegally didn’t have his camera on, it’s hard to tell if the scared woman was holding the pot of water when she dropped to the ground in fear. It is easy to tell, thanks to his partner’s bodycam, that he was in no danger when she made a mild comment in her own home while committing no crimes, at which point she was brutally murdered.

queermunist ,
@queermunist@lemmy.ml avatar

Actually they released his camera footage (and I tortured myself by watching it.)

Content Warning: Pigs being pigsShe had the pot at the moment of shooting.

Slow the video to .25x speed at 10:40 to see it in her hands, the open mouth facing towards him as she jumps up.

This doesn’t justify the shoot though! He was advancing on her with his gun drawn and screaming after she did everything he told her to do! Normal people are not trained on what to do when a butcher comes to your house and starts escalating the situation.

He wasn’t in fear for his life. He just wanted to murder someone.

frauddogg ,
@frauddogg@lemmygrad.ml avatar

Some of these people, thread OP included it sounds like, will not accept that the pigs are slave-catchers even if the lynch mob comes to their homes specifically. You’re burnin your breath with them, sis; and I pray you find a new measure of peace after watching that footage.

I’ve seen some concepts for mall-like communities based around retirement homes and elementary schools. Add a library, some shops, and other services, and you’re off to a great start.

The old-but-still-able folks can serve as crossing guards, read books to kids, play games with them, perhaps help with coaching or other tasks, etc… The young kids benefit from the wisdom and time spent with good role models, the retirees get much-needed social interaction, structure, and purpose.

A man can dream.

Add a library

In the US? Lol. Certainly not a public library.

Would probably end up with like, “Sbarro™ Presents: The Public Library - an interactive replica of what a late 20th century library is thought to have looked like. Sponsored by *Nestlé Global™. Nestlé: The Good Food, Good Life Company” [yes apparently that’s their actual slogan. ew]

“On your left, you will see the Children’s section. Notice the abundance of sexually explicit “homoporn”. These materials were created with the specific intent of homosexualizing straight young men. This section was a hotbed for degenerates of all types. As you can see, libraries would have drag queens and trans evangelists at each corner to harass normal hardworking folks and turning their kids queer (it’s on their agenda). Similarly, Satanists would lurk in the shadows beckoning toward libtard parents who would willingly give their children to them in order to be sacrificed to Moloch to be drained of their precious bodily fluids adrenochrome, and their flesh ritualistically consumed in the massive labyrinthine tunnels connecting the basements of every non-chain pizza restaurant across this nation. Luckily, this is just a replica, so no need to be scared folks. Well of this. You should still be scared of the Jews”

Sorry I had to stop myself or I would have gone on forever lol. Got a little carried away there… For some reason your comment elicited some imagery of what a Snow Crash type world would look like if it were this current reality/timeline. Corporate owned, walled-off enclaves/exclaves, private roads, carrying a katana while delivering pizzas… Man what a book, might be time to re-read.

Edit: If i would have continued after the part about all locally owned pizza shop basements being connected by tunnels…

“Believe it or not, the evil doesn’t stop there. I will give y’all a moment to sit down for this one… are you ready? OK. These dens of sin and debauchery were free of charge. I know, it’s absolutely disgusting. To steal the money I made by myself without the aid of anyone else and to spend it on a place like this? Unthinkable. Different times, folks. Before the purges, of course.

Luckily for us, the evils of state-run libraries are a thing of the past! Only materials pre-approved by the Yum! Brands Ministry of Offensive Literature will appear on our shelves (until their contract runs out, at which time the free market will guide us to a new sponsor).

Now for today’s interactive demonstration: As a parting gift, we’re given you copies of the recent KFC™/Taco Bell™ Magazine bestseller, “The Fountainhead For Kidz: Ayn Rand is Ayn Rad!” everyone look under your seats! Oh, what’s that? There are only 3 copies total, but there are 18 of you on this tour? What would John Galt do?”

"Please remember to visit one of our numerous high-fee ATMs on the way out to be sure you have enough cash before leaving, because if you can’t afford the toll on the Nestlé 405 [yes, they own pretty much everything in this fictional scenario], , otherwise you will not be able to physically reach your home until you can pay. If you choose to use the road without paying, and you use the road anyway, it’ll be only hours before the Nestlé/Yum Brands joint task force on toll enforcement come and break down your door (which you’ll have to reimburse your landlord for) and shoot your endangered pet red panda to count as payment for the transgression of driving for free on a road…

Stupid brain… Stop.

Also, you’re missing a flag.

He has a transgender daughter, whom he still calls by her old, male name. Calling a trans person by their old name that they no longer use, is called deadnaming.

Oh boy. No he has a male to female transgender child, who he intentionally calls by their given name at birth, Also he really switched over to being conservative and anti-trans after said child came out to him. Usually parents go the other way, but he went the extreme hate direction and has seemingly said his child is dead to him.
