poVoq , to selfhost in [question] Is there a lemmyImage freshrss plugin?
@poVoq@slrpnk.net avatar

I am not aware, but the problem will likely be that the images are loaded from a lot of different instances and therefore very hard to detect. Maybe the specific pict-rs path could be detected via a reg-ex though.

FalseDiamond , to selfhosted in Proxmox/Docker is inferior to Unraid

Proxmox doesn’t really do Docker containers well (yet, or maybe will at all). It does do LXC (both of those are OCI containers at heart), but that’s not as well supported or as versatile as Docker/Podman. I’m more than sure Unraid is great at what it does, but it’s not a VMWare killing virtualization solution in production like Proxmox is with its great support for redundancy, versatility and relative ease of use if you come from a Linux background. OTOH Proxmox is not Portainer. It’s for VMs and VM-like containers, at least for now. Supposedly kernel 6.something helps a lot with OverlayFS support in nested containers, but I can’t go to bleeding edge kernels in production to test that. Still, are you sure you need an IP per container?

johnnixon OP ,

Pihole seems pretty unhappy about sharing an IP address/ports with it’s Ubuntu host, so yeah, I’m set on giving it it’s own IP.

FalseDiamond ,

More than fair. I do have a Proxmoxy solution if you want it, which is to run it as an LXC, but it does seem that something more container-oriented may be your best bet rather than sticking with proxmox if you don’t need the extra stuff it offers.

Here’s an absolutely incredible resource when it comes to home running Proxmox LXCs: tteck.github.io/Proxmox/

Pihole is offered (spelled Pi-hole), as well as a ton of other useful services.

To be fair CasualUK was the only sub keeping me active on reddit, even before the API changes. It’s gonna be an adjustment getting my news etc from other sources, but so far, this community here is hitting the spot pretty well. I’d much rather be here if that’s how quickly they caved :(

Good point. I've chucked Google news back on my phone and I'm now trying to find a better news aggregator.

@leaskovski@kbin.social avatar

Yeah, I did use that in the past, but I got bored of the same sources. I think that's why I liked Reddit for news, because it came from an un-curated source that I had no control over, so I felt like I was getting every view and not a news outlets constant slant on things.

tessellatedtangerine ,

yes, and the ability to comment and discuss different viewpoints is so valuable to the way I consume news, because it allows me to understand the impact of the news on communities I am not part of.

CalDav server (Baikal or anything similar, even Synology DSM has an app for it if you have a NAS), plus Davx5 if you're on Android, plus Simple Calendar.

Mane25 , to ukcasual in causal UK is back open.

Very suspicious. Something strange is happening, at least two subreddits on my radar have just unexpectedly reopened with unusually positive comments heavily upvoted despite being against the tone of everything before, I’ve seen others reporting similar.

Edit: Also, a thread was originally posted by someone questioning the opening up, it was quickly hidden (it got supportive replies) and is now locked. Edit again: in less than an hour there have been several such threads that have vanished.

gmtom ,

I'm guessing admins are threatening to replace the mods and reddit mods being reddit mods are just desperate to hang on to their little bit of power. Either that or there no pressure and they just miss their modicum of power.

I can understand not wanting to have the community that they built taken away by force. Sucks though

njaard , to selfhosted in [Question] Does anyone run their own email server?

Yes, and I love it.

I use mailjet as a proxy on outgoing emails so that I get fewer of my sent messages rejected, which works.

It was a pain to setup but it’s treating me very well.

DidacticDumbass OP ,

Neato! I was so concerned about the logistics of sending and receiving emails, it never occurred to me that I could get fancy and make nice looking emails. All I use is text, yet I can do so much better.

njaard ,

No, I only write plain text emails, mailjet only has ip addresses that are generally not blocked by the big providers and they do all the DCIM stuff.

DidacticDumbass OP ,

I get that, I will definitely need to choose a service that helps to not get sending blocked. Still, I was amused that templates were such a big selling point.

Just going to +1 for Nextcloud, it's literally the hub of my whole life including PC and CalyxOS phone syncs.

deepdive OP ,

Thank you :) This was the best of the 2 worlds. I was a bit reluctant because of the name (nextcloud) but after 2 days of hard searching, docker tinkering, cronjobbing and a few lost hairs It fits quite good. Except it doesn’t work with todoist but jtx board seems promising and is not proprietary, so maybe I will make the switch :).

I edited my post accordingly, for other users stumbling on the post (also making lemmy more active 🌤 )

People in the office work the same amount of time. The rest of the time they are talking to other people distracting them from their work or their pretending to work. These antiquated ideas of productivity, primarily working in an office makes you more productive, need to die.

jpj007 , to maliciouscompliance in [REPOST] You can't continue working from home because you go idle in chat too often

Nice. I use an AutoHotKey script that presses Shift if idle time hits one minute.

Have never had anyone actually comment on idle time; it was a preemptive measure.

I didn’t notice either because the .16 version worked for me without a tag. When installing .17 I started getting errors and had to search around.

lily , to mildlyinfuriating in Maybe I just don't get it, but articles that talk about what a celebrity is wearing that is almost always going to be some kind of product placement...

And its almost always not the actual item is clothing anyway, just a cheap knock-off.

The_iceman_cometh , to youshouldknow in YSK: A car takes uses about seven seconds worth of fuel to start up. If you are going to idle for a period of time longer than that, you'll save fuel by turning your engine off.

It’s not necessarily an issue of fuel, but the overall wear on the components and engine when you start a car. A starter motor only has so many “starts” it can do before dying. The battery too.

Starter motors have gotten a lot better since the “bad old days” and engines start more smoothly thanks to fuel injection and computer control systems, so manufacturers have decided that it’s ok to start/stop engines as needed, but the reason for not doing it was never a matter of fuel savings.
