Firefox is the first to come to mind. Also all the KDE software (when run in KDE).

Mersampa , to technology in Why is it so annoyingly hard to set up a Fediverse node?

80/20 rule.

When you are creating something like Lemmy, where you want wide uptake, you need to pander to the masses.

The /r/selfhosted surveys show around half of self-hosters mostly or exclusively use docker. A significant portion of the rest can use docker if needed.

If you’re in the 20% that isn’t covered by the most common setup, then it can be frustrating. But supporting that 20% takes as much effort as supporting the other 80% (see 80/20 rule), and when things are new it’s just not where the effort should be focused.

So you have all those servers, but why can’t you install debian or ubuntu server on one of them?

You could also get a $2/month VPS and run it on that. Beehaw is run on something similar (though apparently $12 a month, but a lot more users).

I switched to Linux Mint full-time a few months ago and it’s blown me away with how good it is.

I use iptvcat.com. Has a lot of channels including BeIN, just type the channel you want to watch and it will give you a m3u link.

any1th3r3 , to gaming in Game Pass - What's your favorite sleeper hit?

i haven’t had much of a chance to get to game pass titles yet, but i highly recommend the A Plague Tale duology (Requiem is still on game pass and is my favourite game in recent memories).

i would also recommend checking out Gamika.me, it makes filtering game pass (and ps plus) games much easier imo (although it can be a bit slow to load initially).

ObiGynKenobi ,

+1,000 for Requiem. I adored the first game, and Requiem instantly jumped into my top 5 favorite games of all time. Such a tense, beautiful, well-written experience.

wtf BLENDER is open source???

CrabAndBroom ,

Yep, there are quite a few forks of it too, eg. one for artists with a friendlier UI, a CAD-focused one, a game engine one etc.

Wow I never heard of these. Bforartists seems pretty interesting as a newbie to blender in general lol.

Darktable is awesome. People rave on about Lightroom like it’s irreplaceable, but Darktable exists and is a legit alternative.

Helix

uthredii ,

For anyone who doesn’t know; Helix is an editor with vim like keybindings with more out of the box functionality than vim.

I am using it too and like it.

The only problem I ran into is that the search and replace function (across.multiple files isn’t very good).

Ephera , to linux in What's that one feature you liked so much while distrohopping that you want it by default in all distros?

BTRFS snapshots like openSUSE and now also Fedora has it. I don’t want to use a distro without them anymore. Unfortunately, configuring them yourself is a bit more involved than just installing a package…

CannotSleep420 , to lemmy in Timeline starts scrolling in "new" sorting

I’m not sure if this is the same issue, but sometimes I’ll be browsing posts by new and a bunch of months old posts will be fetched for no apparent reason. This happens to me occasionally, but unfortunately it happens seemingly randomly, so I don’t know how to reliably reproduce the issue to find out what’s causing the problem.

I have a bit of everything at home. A windows PC, a mac laptop, a couple of linux boxes to run media servers etc

knfrmity , to asklemmy in Why you don't use linux?

I do for all my machines except the daily driver and at work.

I want to switch over my main system to Linux but I’m putting it off because I feel like I need a full day or two to just transfer simple things like browser info, save games, find utility apps, etc. Plus a bunch of games that I like playing still don’t work on Linux. I also haven’t looked into how to attempt to play “unlicensed” games on Linux yet.

ksynwa , to piracy in How to pirate Videos from any website?
@ksynwa@lemmy.ml avatar

On Android, it’s a bit complicated but you if you are experienced you can use termux and yt-dlp.

You can use yt-dlp from a desktop too.

For youtube on android you can use newpipe. It allows streaming as well as downloading.
