Bot: Hmm this article reflects reality, thus it is biased to the left.
Using charged language like that constitutes disinformation and is reprehensible. Imagine if viewers started disregarding a source on account of your bot declaring it biased.
If AI is so convincing, why would anyone care about nudes being controversial anymore? You can just assume it’s always fake. If everything is fake, why would anyone care?
Specifically because it's convincing. You may just assume everything is fake, that doesn't mean everyone will. You may not care about seeing someone's imperceptibly realistic nude, but if it's depicting them they may care, and they deserve the right for people not to see them like that.
Just because it's not logistically feasible to prevent convincing AI nudes from spreading around doesn't make it ethical
I should’ve clarified that this was meant to be tongue in cheek but also illustrative of the issue. Something being “fake” doesn’t make it any less real to a victim. I understand it was flippant and a bit aggressive, but the intention was to get them to consider the impact it could have on them personally and those they love. It’s a very serious problem and I just struggle to see how people can shrug it off, which admittedly isn’t something I should take out on folks here.
That is where we are not seeing this the same way. You wanna make fake images, knock yourself out. I don’t care who they are. Make some of me for all I care.
So if this happened to your significant other or children, and they are clearly upset and want it to stop, you would just go “I don’t care?”
We all sometimes dig in our heels and become absolutist in our arguments online, but dude…do I really need to explain how insane that sounds? Do you really just have a complete lack of imagination and/or empathy?
What happens when someone makes a convincing fake of you having sex with a kid and spreads it around “for the lulz”?
It’s a bit of a blend of it has always been a big deal, and that it is indeed more of a big deal still now because of how easy, accessible, and believable the AI can be. Like even nowadays, Photoshop hits only one point of that triangle. But it was even less capable back in the day. It could hit half of one of those points at any given time.
Basically, a nude generated by a good AI has to be proven false. Because it doesn’t always immediately seem as such at first. If you have seen obvious AI fakes, they are just that, obvious. There are many non-obvious ones that you might have seen and not known they were fake. That is, of course, assuming you have looked.
The other reason it can be more of a big deal now is that kids have been doing it of other kids. And since the results can be believable, the parents didn’t know they were fake to start with. So it would blow up as if it was real before finding out it was AI. And anything involving that is gonna be a big deal.
I mean, that was an issue in the first month or so. Though I could see if the automated tools people use for this specific purpose might not stay up to date. I haven’t specifically interacted with those. But proper AI tools have in-filling to correct mistakes like that, you can keep the rest of the image and just “reroll” a section of it until whatever you didn’t like about it is fixed. Super quick and easy.
I’m not sure about FF specifically, but 99% of the time you’re connecting a microcontroller to a PC you’re doing so over a serial port (UART) of some sort. It may be a physical COM port or it may be a USB to serial adapter or even a purely virtual serial port over a USB connection, but the methodology is all the same. Unless you are running a serial terminal on that port (as in, a commandline on your PC served on the given /dev/ttyX interface, not a terminal emulator letting you read/write from the port), the microcontroller can’t just run scripts on the PC. Instead, you will want to write a script/program that opens the port and waits for a command to be sent from the microcontroller, then that listener script can execute whatever functionality you require. Note that only one application can have the port active at a time, so if your listener is a separate program from your event handler, you will have to close the port on the listener before running the handler, then reopen the port on the listener once the handler is done so it can start listening for the next event. Better to just make it all one program that is always running on the PC and does both listening for events and handling them so there’s only one program that needs access to the serial port.
Yup, pretty much this. I have a small touchscreen Arduino device that I keep plugged into my PC. When I hit a button on the touchscreen it sends some text over serial (which is really a USB wire). I have a Python script on the PC that continuously reads from the serial port and parses the received data to figure out what to do. Specifically it tells my Discord bot to play a sound :)
I got a few comments pointing this out. But media is hell bent on convincing people to hate AI tools and advancements. Why? I don’t know.
Tin foil hate is that it can be an equalizer. Powerful people that own media like to keep power tools to themselves and want the regular folk to fear and regulate ourselves from using it.
Like could you imagine if common folk rode dragons in GOT. Absolutely disgusting. People need to fear them and only certain people can use it.
Same idea. If you’re skeptical, go look up all the headlines about AI in the past year and compare them to right wing media’s headlines about immigration. They’re practically identical.
You’re looking for a cat’s fifth leg. There is no conspiracy. It’s just new technology and what’s new is scary, specially big leaps, which this new age of machine learning seems to be part of.
Older guy here, went bald in my 20s. Let me say this: while going bald or becoming bald sucks ass, being bald is fine. I had lots of thick hair, and when it started going away and I didn’t look like me in the mirror anymore. I figured women would find me less attractive.
What I learned is that it takes a while for your self image to catch up to your reflection in the mirror. One of the shitty things for most people about going bald is that it happens over a long time, and when you’re used to one level of baldness, it gets worse. But eventually it levels out.
There are women who aren’t attracted to bald guys (and that’s fine, attraction is subjective), but it turns out there are women who are especially attracted to bald guys, and that the vast majority of women don’t care. Doing things like having a comb-over or wearing a toupee are often a turnoff, but I think it’s as much because of the associated lack of confidence than the look itself.
I can sincerely say that I wouldn’t want my hair back today. The look suits me and it’s easier to deal with.
That’s exactly it. There was a grieving process for a few months as I came to terms with it, but now I don’t think I’d go back if given the chance. I’m a bald guy, I look good bald and can make bald jokes whenever the ice needs breaking.
Don’t try to half cope, everyone will smell the desperation. Gotta embrace it and stay all the way bald. Other men seem to notice and care more about it than women honestly.
