It's so good. Once the other character shows up and you hear him talking and Grace starts making sense out of what he's saying it's like the book just lights up. That was a really nice touch.

Yes how I read (listen) to the novel 3 times so far. Excellent novel. I love Rocky and the whole novel is wonderful.

I enjoyed how it built up slowly it was those extra touches that made the difference.

I really should read the physical book to see the difference.

But is is a novel I will enjoy over and over again no different than listening or reading The Martian over and over again.

btrfs and snapshots is one solution

Also, it looks like you were able to solve the problem, even if you aren’t 100% sure why. Maybe the difference in package versions lead to some problem with the bootloader, causing it to go to emergency mode, and updating it fixed the problem?

Another is using a more stable distro…

motsu , to nostupidquestions in How does Lemmy decide what goes in the hot feed?

When you post, the Lemmy app secretly takes a photo of your face. This is then sent to a 3rd party AI application that looks at your facial features and ranks you on how hot you are. This is then sent back to the Lemmy server. This hotness score is then weighted by the users location that is viewing the feed (ie, an LA 7 might be a 9 in Chicago, or a 10 in alamaba if they are genetically related to you)

wada , to linux in Why is Linux so frustrating for some people?
@wada@lemmy.ml avatar

You don’t choose Linux. Linux choose you. That being said

It’s not that hard actually but you need a lot of free time and motivation to keep learning. When I was a student I was deep on Archlinux + DWM / AwesomeWM + lots of console applications now that I am a functional working men I just stick to a stable distro (Currently Debian Testing) I think the secret is have good hardware compatibility and if you want to try some weird configuration just use a VM first or just use a immutable distro.

KLISHDFSDF ,
@KLISHDFSDF@lemmy.ml avatar

The secret is definitely to have good hardware compatibility, as that address 99% of the issues people have, but anything that requires a lot of free time and motivation to keep learning is, I would say, hard by definition.

    You spend much more time trying to fix something in Linux and get it working than actually using it to do useful work.

    Not really…

    On Linux if it breaks, I can often dig into the source and quickly figure out what’s broken.

    On Windows, I’m usually shit outta luck. Gotta trawl through tons of messy forums and bullshit SEO-optimised blogspam sites to find a solution.

    Just got a handheld emulator console, been trying some Pokemon rom hacks, Rocket Edition in particular. Been loving it! I’ve sort of lost the patience to sit down and play a longer game, so these handheld games are perfect for sitting down and playing for a bit while I watch a YouTube video. This is also the first time I’ve played Pokemon Pinball and it’s fantastic! I’m kinda terrible though!

    Also my coworkers started a minecraft server and it’s been fun going back after years away from minecraft.

    sparklecherry , to books in What are the best books for someone with depression? to read...

    You could try audiobooks from Libby or audible. It’s not the same as reading the physical text but maybe it can help getting through books faster. For digital manga, there’s tachiyomi. Some are scanlations and some are official translations from old publishers like tokyopop and yen press.

    Orionza , to nostupidquestions in Why do most gaming laptops have vents on the bottom?
    @Orionza@lemmy.zip avatar

    Actually you will block those vents if you use on your lap, and overheat the system (and burn your leg perhaps!)

    You know those boards with a beanbag cushion underneath - you can use that, or some kind of laptop table.

    are you upset about the phrase “yuck my yum” or them trashing your food, period? I mean both are mildly infuriating to me but I’m curious

    edit: added much-needed comma.

    Also, I’ve only ever heard this in the context of food (hence the “yum”) but I see it’s also used for other things? Which is awful, because “yum” should absolutely never refer to anything other than food
