Lemmylaugh , to nostupidquestions in Why do most US lawsuits settle instead of going to trial?

The follow up question is why is the process to sue a corporation instead of charging them with a crime, or to make whatever nefarious action the corporations did a crime. The former seems that the intention is just to settle money out of them whereas the latter is more symbolic to seek justice which is more what op is looking for.

I can recommend Navidrome. Organizing of library with Lidarr and (Beets)[beets.io]
I’m using Beets for tagging because of the Discogs plugin.
Lidarr for visual overview of the library.

Madiator2011 OP ,

Beets My issue is that some of my media files are messed up tried to use Beets though not sure if I did something wrong but I messed up a bit.

easeKItMAn ,
@easeKItMAn@lemmy.world avatar

Lidarr can be used for tagging too and it does have a web interface.
Cleaning a messed up library with Beets is tough and depends on how the individual files are sorted. Start importing/organizing a small part or some albums to find out how it works. And a backup of data is always recommend!

TheHolm ,
@TheHolm@aussie.zone avatar

you need to be organised with beet. Import your music one album after an other. use “-t” to be sure that beet is guessing albums correctly. It is lot of work, but once it done it is smooth sailing.

    Any opinion on EasyTAG? I’ve been using it for many years and been quite happy with it.

    @easeKItMAn@lemmy.world avatar

    You are right Beets doesn’t allow for custom id3v2 fields.
    However it has quite a lot of fields ‘’’beet fields’’’
    You can write them specifically using ‘’’-F’’’
    (Beets doc)[beets.readthedocs.io/en/stable/…/cli.html#fields]
    I’m not aware of a publisher nor producer field though.

    Devx00 , to technology in History of CS & Programming

    You should read Hackers: Heroes of the Computer Revolution by Steven Levy.

    It’s not specifically about CS and programming but a bit adjacent to both. It basically covers hackers from the inception of the phrase through to modern day, if you read the updated version which was published in 2011 I think.

    Kelho OP ,

    Perfect, exactly the type of stuff I’m looking for! Thanks!

    Devx00 ,

    No problem. I should point out that it’s a very US-centric version of history. I’m sure it leaves out a ton of international context. If anyone else knows of a book that includes more international context I’d love to read it myself.

    IDK man. I set up DuckDNS 2 years ago and since then I had to update HomeAssistant settings just once when they introduced public address in settings. No failures, no problems. Rest is done automatically and my alert for expiring certificate never triggered.

    I’m happy that you found solution with Tailscale but DuckDNS is also good and reliable in my experience.

    Since instagram don’t allow third party clients you could have your account banned, not just that but sometimes those apps could come with malware or spyware, so i would avoid them.

    sfcl33t , to nostupidquestions in Why do most US lawsuits settle instead of going to trial?

    There are many good reasons to settle a lawsuit. It feels like you’re mixing up going to trial for a crime with one party suing another.

    Most of the time in the US a lawsuit is seeking damages, so the primary goal of the suing party is to receive compensation. If the parties can agree on terms why go through with the lawsuit?

    Sometimes the party that feels victimized does not want to testify and relive whatever trauma they suffered.

    There are of course exceptions like when a lawsuit is filed for a symbolic amount like $1 or to get a civil verdict where a criminal one failed. Those are designed to either get a victory in the courtroom or compel someone to take an action unrelated to compensation.

    Criminal trials are the state charging a company or an individual for a criminal offense. Those trials can end on a plea deal. It’s a mechanism to avoid a hugely expensive trial and the risk of losing altogether. Of course as a the accused party you have much better chances of a deal if you have a great defense that makes the prosecutor unsure they will get the result they want. So it’s inherently unfair to the poor.

    Use timeshift, easy peasy to set up. It’s saved my bacon a couple of times now, only last week, when the kernel 6.4 came out, but my old nvidia driver wouldn’t work with it. You just jump into tty, run timeshift --restore and chose a previous backup, takes all of ten minutes. I have it doing a back up every day to a second HD, keeping the last five, doesn’t take up much space. I don’t think there’s an easier option than that.

    We got through another two films from my friends “horror films you should watch” list. And after the success of last week’s two choices we went in with high hopes, that were sadly dashed a little bit.

    Satanic Panic is a comedy-horror starring Rebecca Romjin’s boobs. It’s got some genuinely funny moments but mostly it fell a bit flat for us. I did like the main character a lot though!

    Alien Code is actually more of a scifi thing, very low budget, mostly filmed in a flat, you know the type of thing. Actually quite enjoyed it for the most part although it started to drag on a bit towards the end.

    Music-wise I’m struggling. Does anyone who uses Spotify know how to make it suggest any new music to me whatsoever? Every single day it gives me the same choice of the same playlists with the same songs from the same bands. Do I need to be searching out and adding more stuff to my library to kick-start the algorithm or what? Google Music used to recommend me new stuff all the time, miss you bby.

    Anyway today I’m planning to listen to a combo of The Decemberists and Shinedown so if anyone has suggestions for other bands I might like, go for it!

    rubikcuber OP ,
    @rubikcuber@feddit.uk avatar

    In an act of shameless self-promotion, I have a long stagnant music podcast that I’ve recently resurrected. It’s generally pretty obscure stuff, a lot of self released tracks. Mostly recent releases. Not familiar with Shinedown but a big fan of The Decemberists, so there may be something in there you might like. The downside… and to be honest it’s a big one… is that you need to listen to me waffle on. I guess that’s why skip forward buttons were invented.
