Or just don’t send death threats… what a bunch of petulant lunatics people are.

Disagree and express your disagreement, don’t use the opportunity express your violent inner child. You just distract from the actual issue you “care” about.

DVDs, people. DVDs and Blu-Rays.

mwguy ,

Blu-Rays generally are a bad idea. They’re so concerned with piracy that they make things like ripping your Blu-Rays needlessly difficult, especially for recently released to video Blu-Rays.

Honestly it’s easier to just pirate.

tony ,

Meh… it’s not that hard. Get something that’s libredrive compatible and run makemkv on it. Not had a failure yet.

The real downside is that blurays (esp. HD ones) are too expensive to get a decent collection.

mwguy ,

How do you ensure that it’s libredrive compatible?

tony ,

I just bought one from ebay from a guy that only sells libredrive compatible drives. But there’s a list here forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=79712#p79…

benad , to gaming in The long-rumored 'Quake II' remaster is out now on PC and consoles | Engadget

I was a bit disappointed by Quake II RTX, which felt like an engine hack with nothing more. This looks like the proper remaster we’ve been waiting for.

Love the inclusion of the Nintendo 64 port, like how it was also included with the Quake I remaster.

RecklessDwark ,

Well, yeah, Quake 2 RTX was a free-to-play tech demo.

In my experience it’s a bit slower but not by much, I usually only access text based websites over Tor though with minimal images, streaming over YouTube can be horribly slow but it’s generally worked okay for me.

Who needs reddit? Now I go to Imgur for memes, and Lemmy for news.

The only thing reddit is still better at is finding an answer to a very specific question (adding site:reddit.com to your Google searches works wonders), but that’ll improve with time as more and more people get tired of Spez’s bullshit and migrate here. Can’t wait to see the death of reddit. Was a member since the beginning and it’s sad to see it go the way of Digg.

Buelldozer , to technology in Netflix lists $900,000 AI job as actors and writers continue to strike
@Buelldozer@lemmy.world avatar

I do hope that the strikers get what they are asking for however this AI stuff is inevitable. AI written scripts performed by AI Characters in full virtual space is going to happen. Oh sure it will suck Donkey Ballz for the first 3-4 years while studios get a handle on the tech but it will improve rapidly.

The porn studios are already playing with this this and I predict that in less than 10 years the people over at !aigen will be cranking out full length pr0n movies using OSS tools.

Unless computers go away this trend is unstoppable.

awderon ,

AI written scripts will just repackage old ideas. Nothing new or innovative.

Treczoks , to world in EU delays decision over scanning encrypted messages for CSAM

Looking for CSAM is only the excuse they put out. Who knows what they are actually after. Maybe they just want to find compromat on people.

FarraigePlaisteach ,

Well, we can’t trust that corruption would be low enough that this wouldn’t be exploited for other reasons. Child trafficking and exploitation is off the charts. If this did actually help those kids I’d consider supporting it. But I do remember when Apple announced that they would do this that some groups that seemed reputable claimed that it wouldn’t actually help. I don’t know what to think of it.

sandbox ,

99.9% of CSAM sharing etc. happens on the dark web forums, not on like, whatsapp or signal. So this legislation wouldn’t help prevent or catch those people

bbuez , to technology in Spotify is raising the cost of Premium subscriptions, again

kandoh , to technology in Spotify is raising the cost of Premium subscriptions, again

Quality isn’t good enough to justify the price. Apple Music and Tidal have better quality of sound.

Lianodel , (edited )

even apart from audio quality, Spotify is just plain terrible as a music library.

For someone who lives in playlists, it might be fine. But I like to pick and choose albums and songs, and be able to sort the whole collection on the fly. Spotify, and unfortunately a whole bunch of the competition, will have three separate lists for “liked” songs, albums, and artists. Only want to save the studio tracks, and not the demos and live versions? Fuck you, you can like the album or not, it’s all or nothing! And the special edition is the only version we have! enjoy the solid hour of shittier versions of the songs you actually wanted!
