This isn’t breaking news, we’ve known it was false almost immediately.

I do agree it’s not productive to post a source as obviously biased as OP’s tho. No one is going to listen to that site except people that agree with it solely because of the name.

apfelwoiSchoppen , (edited )
@apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world avatar

Reporting genocide is a bias now. Highly suggest reading Lewis Raven Wallace’s book A View From Somewhere. It discusses how “objective journalism” silences marginalized voices and forces those writers to “see both sides” of their material reality. Media Bias metric sites are not without their own inherent bias towards the status quo. Everything is political. Including being “unbiased”. Electronic Intifada is reporting from Gaza about Gazans, they are doing great work.

DarkThoughts ,

It's a stupid story anyway because there's enough atrocities committed by hamas that we have clear evidence of. No reason to just parrot what Netanyahu says, who clearly tries to hyperbolically one-up stories to justify his actions. It just gives the hamas apologists some sort of "gotcha" moment.

givesomefucks ,

It’s a stupid story anyway because there’s enough atrocities committed by hamas that we have clear evidence of.

Are there Israeli claims older than 3 months that haven’t already been disproven?

Because Biden is literally still talking about this one and others that have been disproven.

So it’s pretty disappointing if he’s doing that while there’s actual evidence for other claims.

DarkThoughts ,

No idea. I don't really follow this much, especially not what either side claims. I've seen both do absolute heinous acts. I'm just sick and tired of people defending those atrocities because of some sort of tribalism towards their team, or against the other team.

givesomefucks ,

No idea. I don’t really follow this much, especially not what either side claims

Well, you might want to stop acting like there’s mountains of evidence if you’re self admittedly ignorant of any factual evidence…

That’s the point of “gish gallop” propaganda like Israel is using. They make a shit ton of claims that will eventually turn out to be proven false. But they’re counting on people who don’t stay informed to “feel” like there’s so much evidence some of it has to be true and not stay up to date on all the follow ups that each piece isn’t

DarkThoughts ,

I have eyes my dude. Just because I don't take either sides propaganda for granted doesn't mean I am ignorant about the topic. If you don't believe that hamas brutally attacked, tortured, raped, murdered and beheaded innocent civilians then you're a tool.

givesomefucks ,

I have eyes my dude. Just because I don’t take either sides propaganda for granted doesn’t mean I am ignorant about the topic

I’m confused, do you mean you’ve been in Gaza the last 6 months?

Or did your eyes see videos/articles, but you don’t follow the news enough to know when they turn out to be false? Where are you even seeing that stuff in the first place?

It sounds like you ignore actual journalism and just go off of social media…

What are your eyes seeing exactly that you can’t share with the class so it can be easily disproven?

And what’s the point of you just replying over and over saying there’s evidence but you just can’t show anyone?

How is that different than what Rudy Giuliani and the Pillow Crackhead have been doing the last couple years?

DarkThoughts ,

My dude, if you have to make shit up about things I allegedly said then at least don't go onto some rambling tantrum about all the other things I allegedly did or didn't do. It just makes you look like you have to push an agenda.

givesomefucks ,

if you have to make shit up

Am I the one claiming mountains of evidence exist but refusing to ever link anything?

You’re making claims that evidence is all over and readily available, but instead of linking it, you just want to keep hurling insults.

Just link it bro.

The longer this goes on, the less likely anyone is to believe “your eyes”.

Seriously, when the best analogies for your actions is Rudy Giuliani, it’s time for some introspection

DarkThoughts ,

I don't have to link anything just because some fucktwat hamas sympathizer on Lemmy demands it from me.

NoneOfUrBusiness ,

They had one false claim. I mean usually you'd expect 0 but MBFC's bias is very obvious here and in other cases. It's one guy's personal project why do we take it so seriously?

BTW from MBFC

Despite the biased presentation, articles are generally well-sourced to credible media outlets.

DarkThoughts ,

It's not just about false claims but also general bias. And calling Biden a white supremacist is also a false claim and stupidly biased, to the point of just being ridiculous. No sane person is going to take you seriously with such a rhetoric.

NoneOfUrBusiness , (edited )

It's not just about false claims but also general bias

I'm talking about the factuality rating. I have issues with their bias system as well, but not in this case.

Edit: Good point about the white supremacy part, though I do think it's passable-ish for an opinion piece. Also I went to fact check their fact check and

“According to a police source, the investigation also shows that an IDF combat helicopter that arrived to the scene and fired at terrorists there apparently also hit some festival participants,” Haaretz states.

MBFC is just shoddy work all around, and from what I've seen leans slightly conservative and pro-Israel, if not directly then through its reliance on sources like the ADL.

givesomefucks , to world in Israeli source of "executed children" lie admits story was untrue

Everyone knew it was bullshit when they claimed it, but even now that it’s admitted to be false, it’s not going to have any effect on governments support of their genocide in Gaza.

The propaganda isn’t for the leaders of other countries, it’s so the voters in those countries don’t replace the leaders for funding genocides.

I’d like to think no leader of a country is really dumb enough to still be believing any claims made by the Israeli government, but it’s hard to tell these days

LibertyLizard ,

It can have effects on public sentiment which can influence leadership’s behavior. I would argue this has already happened to a notable degree.

magnetosphere , (edited )
@magnetosphere@kbin.social avatar

They probably get away with it because it isn’t really “cheese” as most people define it.

When I started typing, I thought that was a joke, but now I’m genuinely curious.

rockSlayer ,

McDonald’s changes their menu for the region, so even if it was a cheeseburger the cheese would be kosher

magnetosphere ,
@magnetosphere@kbin.social avatar

Yeah, but to eat Kosher you can’t serve meat and cheese together. If you go to a Kosher deli in New York, for example, if you want cheese on your sandwich they’ll serve you the cheese on a separate plate. You have to put the cheese on yourself.

So, what’s on the burgers isn’t considered “cheese”, or it IS cheese, but served on the side, or McDonald’s just said “fuck it” and serves cheeseburgers that aren’t Kosher. My guess is #1. It isn’t technically “cheese”, but some sort of “processed cheese food” crap. They already do that with their milkshakes, which don’t actually contain any milk.

TechDiver ,

McDonalds in Israel don't have dairy at all

magnetosphere ,
@magnetosphere@kbin.social avatar

Well, that makes it a lot easier. Thanks!

kemsat ,

Is it all cheese & meat? I thought it just can’t come from the same animal, so you’d be able to eat beef with goat’s milk cheese, or any other cheese that doesn’t come from cows.

magnetosphere ,
@magnetosphere@kbin.social avatar

Pretty sure any dairy product and any meat is a non-Kosher combination. I’m not an expert, though.

TechDiver ,

I'm not Jewish but i lived in Israel for many years. You are right with one exception, fish is not considered meat in Judaism so they can eat a salmon and down it with milk. I'm not saying they do but that it will be kosher

eatthecake , to worldnews in Germany backs Netanyahu for the same reason it created Hitler

The author on German recognition of genocide in Ukraine:

recognized a famine that struck the Soviet Union as a genocide in Ukraine, putting it on equal footing with the Holocaust in a grotesque act of historical revisionism.

I’m going to go ahead and ignore his opinions on genocides. German guilt and the unique place that nazis and the holocaust hold in tbe history of human horrors explain their inability to crticise Israel quite sufficiently.

Jagermo ,

An outlet called electronic intifada also might be a bit one-sided in their opinions.

brain_in_a_box ,

Wait, are you trying to discredit the author for rightly calling out double genocide theory as the soft Holocaust denial that it is?

eatthecake ,

Making the Jewish people the sacred cows of victimhood is, imo, one reason noone in the west (especially Germany) is prepared to stand up to Israel right now. That isn’t holocaust denial. Tbh, I think competition over whose genocide was the worst is insulting to all the victims.

brain_in_a_box ,

Comparing the Holocaust to bad faith claims made by literal nazis for the specific purpose of downplaying the Holocaust is absolutely Holocaust denial

eatthecake ,

TIL the holodomor is a bad faith claim made by literal nazis.

brain_in_a_box ,

Yes, correct

gnuhaut ,

The problem here is that there was no intent to cause a famine at all, and neither was a specific group (like Ukrainians) specifically targeted for starvation once it was there. This isn’t some fringe opinion, this is the opinion of mainstream Western historians like Davies and Wheatcroft that actually research this stuff.

Putting the Holodomor (not a genocide) on the same level as the Holocaust (textbook genocide) is therefore relativizing the Holocaust. This was and is used to whitewash Nazis (and collaborators) and their crimes as basically a form of “self-defense” or liberation. This was already actual Nazi propaganda used by the Nazis, and is now state-sponsored propaganda used in e.g. the Baltic states to rehabilitate actual Holocaust perpetrators.

In May 2012, the foreign minister of Lithuania (left) honored Prof. Snyder in the week during which his government was reburying with full honors the 1941 Nazi puppet prime minister. The foreign minister is known for his antisemitic outbursts, his Hitler-Stalin “moustache comparison” and his defense of the Nazi’s reburial on the floor the nation’s parliament. The event has been seen as part of a wider pattern of high officials honoring western dignitaries who seem to be supporting — or can be presented as favoring — one or more components of Baltic revisionist history.

Timothy Snyder is the “double genocide” historian and author.

In July 2012, the Lithuanian foreign minister explained how Professor Snyder’s Bloodlands will be utilized during Lithuania’s (rotating) EU presidency in 2013, as part of a wider “Double Genocide offensive” in the EU. The use of Bloodlands for the nationalist narrative had earlier been proposed or explained by professors Saulius Sužiedėlis and Egidijus Aleksandravičius. Earlier (ab)use of ‘Bloodlands’ included a September 2011 book event held at the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry where passages were misquoted to defame Jewish partisan veterans.
