Bullshit. There are tons if Imagination GPUs with no free software driver.

Their FOSS efforts are Rogue GPUs only atm. They way they’re doing it is applaudable though.

isVeryLoud ,

Technically they didn’t specify that all Imagination GPUs support it, only “Imagination GPUs” plural. Could be as little as two.

rah ,

In English in England, that sentence reads as meaning all Imagination GPUs. Were it less than all GPUs, one would expect “Some Imagination GPUs” or some other qualification.

The contrast between the two forms gives the impression of deceptive marketing. And that’s what it is.

isVeryLoud ,

Marketing? What are they marketing? This is free software.

BreakDecks ,

And?

alteropen ,

@BreakDecks @isVeryLoud there not marketing anything they have no incentive to do so just showing off their cool software

What are Imagination GPUs exactly? Their website seems confusing. Can it be a replacement for Nvidia/AMD top GPUs? Or more for Intel? Or is it an entirely different thing?

You may recognize the name PowerVR from ages of yore. They bowed out of the consumer desktop market in the early days and I believe now focus more on mobile, automotive, IoT and other specialized devices.

According to the blog, they want to be in on the RISC-V space early; advertising their IP as approachable to RISC-V chip designers.

With their GPU having true FOSS drivers now, I could actually see that happen.

Bigly huge. The age of translation layers are upon us!

Have you seen the talk at the xorg about trying to make graphics drivers ontop of compute drivers?
