At least five people have died after a train hit railway workers at high speed close to a station in Italy.
The workers, aged between 22 and 52, were replacing part of a track outside the northern city of Turin when they were killed.
They had been working on the line between Turin and Milan when the empty passenger train went through Brandizzo station at a reported 160km/h (100mph).
In a statement, Italian railway network (RFI) expressed its “deep sorrow” for the incident.
Italian reports said the workers had been replacing about 10m of track when the empty train transporting a dozen wagons went through Brandizzo station at high speed.
The mayor of Brandizzo, a small town to the north-east of Turin, said he would wait until the outcome of the inquiry but a communication error could not be ruled out.

It was decades ago but Burger King was a bit of a staple for me for a few years when I lived close to a franchise operator that was consistent. It has been awhile and I knew things had gone downhill and some of the franchise operators are very shitty but I was shocked last time we went. The restaurant was filthy and the tables and floors were covered in food. The burgers looked to be thrown together out of bin leftovers. Can’t say I blame staff for the lack of enthusiasm given their employer has a known history of wage theft. We couldn’t tell the differences between the more expensive special and regular whopper so took the mess to the counter to ask what the fuck we were given and why it looked nothing like the photo. The whole family swore off them for life. Never going back.
Supposedly its a 1/4 pound patty. Compare to the mcd’s quarter pounder. The whopper is thin, and I wouldn’t be surpised if it was smaller than advertised
Eh, I think surface area is larger on a whopper n the meat sticks out of the bun more. Admittedly, the last time I got a whopper was in an airport like 6 months ago bc all chain fast food is absolute ass these days and way overpriced. I try to avoid it outright, but sometimes it’s the only option.
imo, the dishonesty is less about the size and more about how all the toppings look fresh on the menu, while in person they look like aged out grocery store culls and the burger always looks like someone put it between their ass cheeks and then watched a Peter Jackson movie before serving it.

i never really noticed it besides the hack bit in Falling Down until i went to a mcdonalds in japan. every item on the menu came out like a goddamn prop for a promotional photo. surreal. kinda made me realize that unless you’re willing to fork over a day’s median wage or more in the US for a prepared meal or go to some mom and pop place that gives a shit, you’re gonna get fuck you food from someone being paid a poverty wage to slop together utility-tier ingredients because screwing over the customer and the worker is what makes rich people more money.

Yeah if you look at the pictures in the article, you can see the advertisement shows the patty being 20?% larger than the bun underneath it. The photo under that shows the actual patty being slightly (10?%) smaller than the bun. I assume that’s how the 35% number was determined.
Maybe they are diferent in your country. Back before covid i somtimes had to go there and ordered 2 or 3 doble whoopers and and i remember it being way too expensive. I left hungry and feeling riped off.

Even the "supermoon" part is really pretty bland. The Moon looks very slightly larger. Imperceptible without some kind of visual reference that you've calibrated beforehand.

The US Department of Health and Human Services has called on the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) to loosen federal rules on cannabis.
Cannabis is currently classified as a schedule 1 drug under the Controlled Substances Act, meaning it has no medical use and a high chance of abuse.
Last year, President Joe Biden asked his attorney general and health secretary to oversee a review on whether cannabis should be listed as a less serious drug.
“As part of this process, HHS conducted a scientific and medical evaluation for consideration by DEA,” the agency said in a statement.
Some advocates have pushed the administration to de-schedule the drug, meaning repeal it from the Controlled Substances Act and regulate it in the same way as alcohol or tobacco.

A new study has found that nuclear weapons tests during the Cold War are a major cause of high levels of radioactivity in central Europe’s wild boar population.
The radioactivity found in wild boars has previously been blamed on the 1986 Chernobyl disaster.
But the new research concludes that earlier nuclear weapons testing in the 1960s is a significant cause.
After testing meat from 48 boars in Germany’s state of Bavaria, scientists from Vienna’s University of Technology and Leibniz University of Hannover found that their radioactivity is to a significant degree caused by older, Cold War nuclear bomb blasts which are still affecting the soil in the area.
Writing in the Environmental Science and Technology journal, the scientists say that radioactive caesium from the tests have sunk into the earth, contaminating deer truffles - the food favoured by wild boars, who dig into the soil to find them.
The boars’ continued contamination threatens the Bavarian forests themselves, the study says: as the animals are not shot for their meat, their populations are growing unsustainably.

Sky gazers around the world are in for a rare treat as a blue supermoon is making a spectacular appearance for the first time since 2009.
A blue Moon occurs when the pattern of days in a year means there are 13 full Moons instead of the usual 12.
This blue Moon is also a supermoon - when the Earth’s only natural satellite appears brighter than usual because it is at its closest point in its orbit around our planet.
The lunar spectacle is visible either on Wednesday or Thursday in different parts of the world.
In the UK, the best time to see the spectacle will be in early hours of Thursday morning.
