An author I enjoy is asking about how we read serials, and I'm sitting here shaking my head, because I don't.

I'm okay with authors releasing their stories in the way that makes the most business/career sense for them; I want them to thrive!

But I can't do serials; I need the full story there so I can read it in one or two gulps.

Ah sorry, I misunderstood that.

Well, as one that loves epic series I don't even start reading when I only get a chapter of the story every few months (or even weeks. Or days).

I remember reading a story in a daily newspaper once, but that was a one time event.

I'm just restraining myself from reading the first two books in a series of one of my favourite authors because it's planned as a four-parter. Not because I don't trust her to finish the series but because I know I don't want to stop after only half of the story.

It gets harder to resist every time I look at the first book that I already bought.

#Bücher begleiten mich bereits seit ich lesen kann. Ich habe damals quasi die ganze #Kinderbibliothek ausgelesen. Inzwischen sind die meisten #Bibliotheken in meiner Stadt geschlossen worden. 😥

Laut IGLU-Studien kann in Deutschland jedes vierte Kind nach der #Grundschule nicht richtig lesen.

Wieder am falschen Ende gespart?

Meine #Bücher sind heute eher für Erwachsene. Ein #Kinderbuch fehlt noch. 😉

As a voracious reader with a very tight budget who doesn't mind trying new authors: I wish to hell that publishers understood that they would get a lot more of my money, now and in the future, if they made first-in-series books accessible.

If you price all books in a series at $13 or more in digital, you are guaranteeing I won't be able to try, unless I remember to ask at the library.

There are lots of indie authors and publishers doing exactly that.
For me it started when an author posted a bookfunnel link on Twitter (some time ago, obviously). You sign up for the author's newsletter in exchange for the free book. If I like the book I keep the newsletter and get new book promos. I have discovered many new authors this way.

Guten Morgen. Im #WritersCoffeeClub wird heute die Frage diskutiert, ob man ein Portraitfoto auf dem Cover oder im Innern haben sollte.
Ich gestehe, hier völlig leidenschaftslos zu sein. Kann man natürlich machen, und bei Autobiographien empfiehlt es sich sogar als Titel. Aber in allen anderen Fällen: wozu?

Deshalb gebe ich die Frage mal weiter: Ist dir ein Bild dier Autor:in auf dem Cover oder im Buchinnern wichtig?

Für mich persönlich: nein. Im schlechtesten Fall beeinflusst das meine Wahrnehmung des Buches, wenn ich die Autorin auf dem Foto z. B. als unsympathisch empfinde.

Auf der Homepage finde ich es wichtiger (nicht auf der Landing Page, sondern unter About), weil ich da oft nachschaue, wenn ich explizit und aktiv Infos über die Autorin suche.
