Also many companies provide tech support via Twitter (e.g. PayPal).
I also wanted to add that ZSSK (Slovakian state-owned passenger train company) uses Twitter for reporting extraordinary events like trains being very late, cancelled, alternative bus transport (which can be pretty important as buses can’t always get to each station), etc., but checking zssk.sk I noticed they switched from Twitter to Mastodon after these recent events.

It also has the potential of hurting the potential mother long-term.

user224 , to lemmyshitpost in How many extensions do you have installed on your Firefox?

None on personal computer. On school computer I have Foxy Proxy. There’s school proxy server and I kind of provide 2 of my own. For that I use Android Proxy server app from Google Play. Unfortunately I didn’t find anything similar on F-Droid.
First one is HTTP proxy which allows me to go through VPN and use DNS server of my choice and second is TCP relay to Orbot because why not. So I can just connect to school WiFi and start those proxy servers. I also tried SOCKS5, but that seems to ignore my DNS settings, so I don’t use that. Also I don’t need it anyway.
It allows me to quickly switch between proxy servers. Pretty convenient.

Which Hiren’s boot? The old official 15.2 or the new PE version?

user224 , to linux in What portable utilities do you carry with you.

With Ventoy you can have additional files on the same partition. However Ventoy scans everything on that partition, so additional files can slow it down. I recommend creating a directory, say named “Files” and put an empty file “.ventoyignore” into it which makes Ventoy ignore that directory and all sub-directories.

user224 , to technology in Looking for some entertainment tomorrow? Reddit is launching r/place again. Should be fun to watch

Gotta admit, it is tempting, but also I don’t use Reddit anymore.

Would something like r/Place be possible on fediverse? I mean, realistically possible, not possible.

user224 , to technology in Looking for some entertainment tomorrow? Reddit is launching r/place again. Should be fun to watch

I wish I remembered the username. One admin was deleting stuff on r/place, placing pixels without cooldown and then deleting posts that mentioned him.

Wait,…, it’s all ads! I kinda missed it says “Ads”.

That’s… good. Installing an app on more devices is a nice feature.

Or someone just trusted AI way too much to write the article for them. I haven’t seen this mentioned elsewhere, just Twitter and Reddit posts linking to this same site.

user224 OP , to technology in After 25 years, Netflix will be shutting down its DVD rental service this September

I don’t find it very likely. All those current Netflix DVD users are also potential customers for the digital subscription. Suddenly all those DVDs floating around for pennies would reduce that number of potential customers, which I believe Netflix doesn’t want.

user224 , (edited ) to android in What are some decent media players?

VLC. And on ancient Androids, MX Player. That one I use on my Samsung GT-S5830i (Android 2.3.6). I think the Android VLC may even be able to play ripped .iso files but I haven’t tried that yet. I’ll try ripping some smaller DVD and I’ll report back to you.

Edit: Yep, even DVD menu works perfectly fine

user224 , to linux in Why is Linux so frustrating for some people?

Bluetooth. I had the same issue, just the other way around, with Windows 11. The Bluetooth option would just disappear, and only rarely re-appear after many restarts until I locked/shut off the laptop. But it always worked fine with Mint, so I know it wasn’t hardware issue.
