Annoyingly sysrq is disabled on a lot of distributions by default now, so you often have to manually enable it for this to work

turbowafflz ,

It took me reading your comment to realize the person above was talking about an account that did shitty watercolor and not shittywater color. I was very confused

turbowafflz ,

I keep one on my keys since it’s useful for pushing reset buttons and things and if I really need to it even works as a screwdriver

turbowafflz ,

Interesting, it never does for me. Maybe I’m just lucky or my sim tool is a slightly better shape

turbowafflz ,

I get understand wanting desktop icons even though I don’t like them personally, but what’s the advantage of starting at the desktop instead of the overview? It seems like you would probably want to open an application when you log in so it seems more convenient to already be in the overview

turbowafflz ,

Ooh, it really reminds me of newaita reborn which is one of my favorite icon themes. I’m glad they’re making it a little less minimal

turbowafflz ,

They make computers designed for linux, Pop OS is their default operating system for the computers they make

turbowafflz ,

At least at UVA, eduroam on fedora is possible, you might be able to adapt these instructions to your university if you end up on fedora galileo.phys.virginia.edu/…/linux-eduroam.html

turbowafflz ,

I feel like if you were writing enough to be willing to pay that much it it would be more worth it to just learn to use LaTeX and have it all handled automatically

turbowafflz , (edited )

Well it will automatically generate the citation, it just won’t automatically get the information for it, which has never been an issue for me but thinking about it I can see how it would be sometimes

turbowafflz ,

I just switched to floorp from firefox, it’s so nice to finally have another choice for a non-chromium browser with a reasonable number of plugins

turbowafflz ,

Yeah I’m also very confused here. Maybe it’s different depending on the country? I’m in the US and I’m pretty sure the mobile version has always been like this

turbowafflz ,

Tabbed windows like Haiku has. I love that feature so much but I’ve only ever seen it on tiling WMs on Linux

turbowafflz ,

Does it? I’ve never been able to find it

turbowafflz ,

Just like a bunch of windows stacked on top of each other that move and resize together with tabs in the title bar to switch

turbowafflz ,

Interface is bloat; return to sed (or better yet some horrible combination of using echo and cat)

turbowafflz ,

Keep in mind I am insane and you shouldn’t take this as a recommendation unless you are also weird in the ways I am, but I absolutely love NsCDE, it’s an FVWM based modern clone of the old CDE desktop from old UNIXs and VMS and it is so so well executed and I love it.

turbowafflz ,

Well it detects it for me and I am neither using a VPN nor any additional encryption. I’m guessing it’s just their normal thing of slowly rolling out changes instead of to every user at once.

turbowafflz ,

The NYC subway banned small bags on trains unless they fit into a dog, so this guy trained his Pitbull to let a small bag sit in it.

turbowafflz ,

I mean I don’t particularly like firefox either (although it’s still probably the browser I dislike the least), but firefox needs users to keep google from having complete control over the web.

turbowafflz ,

WebOS isn’t based on PalmOS. PalmOS was it’s own completely unique OS for PDAs and phones, WebOS was Palm’s Linux-based successor to PalmOS for the Pre. Eventually LG ended up with it and turned it into a TV and watch OS.

turbowafflz ,

Yeah if it could use modern cell networks and the like 3 apps I actually need I would switch from my modern android phone to a Pre in a heartbeat. It is by far my favorite mobile os

turbowafflz ,

I don’t know if this would work for whatever your remote desktop needs are specifically, but I use Sunshine and it works really well.

turbowafflz ,

Brodie Robertson and The Linux Experiment are probably my favorites for non-vintage tech content

turbowafflz ,

Except it used to be genie interchange format, or something along those lines. (It is still gif though I don’t care what it stood for jif is dumb)

turbowafflz ,

Oh is the built in KDE one gone? That’s so sad, I didn’t know

turbowafflz ,

While this would definitely be useful and make linux software more accessible, I’m worried about something similar to Android’s Google Play Services eventually happening where almost every piece of software, despite being for an open source operating system, depends on proprietary google software

turbowafflz ,

Why does he look like Mr Bruce from The Correspondents

turbowafflz ,

That would actually be such an interesting way to gain users, I want to see that

turbowafflz ,

Also there are several really good open source games which are obviously microtransaction free. OpenTTD from this list is an example and Osu!lazer and SuperTuxKart also come to mind

turbowafflz ,

Isn’t this also what Windows NT used to do? I feel like I remember encountering this scenario

turbowafflz ,

I think valve will be okay as long as they have Gabe Newell, since it seems like he really does care about things like linux support. I’m worried what will happen if he ever leaves though
