technologicalcaveman , to asklemmy in Do you have a preferred artist or band that isn't widely recognized in the mainstream?

I got into Amigo The Devil almost a decade ago in highschool. I used The Weight in my senior project presentation when it was a recent single.

technologicalcaveman , to linux in change my mind: Ubuntu does the same thing as Android

I like Calyx and Gentoo. They've been nice to me.

technologicalcaveman , to linux in What is the best distro for gaming?

Whatever you know best. My personal choice of distro is Gentoo, my gaming pc and my carry laptop both run it. My games run great in gentoo, and because I understand it best, I deal with few issues. For a long time it was Arch, and before that Ubuntu. I used Ubuntu for only maybe 2 months before moving onto Arch then Gentoo. My games always worked, but once I really understood Linux, they ran great.

technologicalcaveman , to steam in Valve releases the Steam Deck OLED with up to 1TB storage

I love my steam deck, I also just got it like 2 months ago. If I knew this was coming, I might've waited. Either way, my girlfriend is probably going to get a cool hand me down in the next couple months.

technologicalcaveman , (edited ) to steamdeck in The Steam Deck's budget price tag is the reason I still rate it nearly two years on

My gamer laptop died, and I tend to spend a good amount of time out the house. Getting a steamdeck for like 350$ (sale) and packing one of my 15 thinkpads made more sense to me. Overall, spending about 450$ on everything instead of 1200$ for another computer that requires me to basically set up a full desktop to use it. It's great being able to just pull out the deck and get at it. It's not the best way to play games, but it's pretty nice for when I'm not home.

Nice. I've been linux daw shopping as of late. My girlfriend's computer died so I let her borrow my music laptop, which is my only windows machine. So, I haven't done much lately. I'll have to look into this.

technologicalcaveman , to ukcasual in saw a peacock in a central london park

Before I left Austin, I would shop at the Nuclear War Now shop often. The folks across from the warehouse had a ton of peacocks, and the first time I saw them it caught me entirely off guard.

Really what got me to learn to use the terminal more was downloading systems without tons of gui apps. Most base systems will be like that. In general my only gui apps are a file browser, web browser, and audio tools. Debian, arch, gentoo, nix. Avoid stuff like mint or endeavour if you want to force yourself into learning the terminal. The more you use it, the better you'll get. Using gui apps isn't bad, sometimes it just works better for specific actions. But knowing how to use the terminal helps for when nothing else works.

technologicalcaveman , to programmerhumor in fuuuuuuuuuuture

I think for me, it takes around 45 minutes to do a full system update when I run it. I usually run it every 3 days or so.
