I edited my other reply for a bit more context, in case you missed it.

That said, maybe I misunderstood your claim and with “the economy” you were referring to the prosperity of the average person.

Yes. No doubt the economy took a hit at the start/height of the pandemic, but using that as a blanket statement to explain the linked article is unsubstantiated.

Edit:
Could also read the article.

The poorest 40% of households suffered an 8% drop in cash savings and the middle 40% (the U.S. middle class) also saw their bank deposits and other liquid assets topple. Only the wealthiest 20% of households are still enjoying the extra cash they stockpiled during the pandemic, with their savings about 8% above where they were in March 2020.

Given the American wealth distribution in 2023, just the top 10% of people hold 69% of wealth.
The article mentions the top 20% saw their savings increase.
I think it’s fair to extrapolate that America “as a whole” got richer (e.g. the economy is “doing better”), at the small cost of 80-90% of its inhabitants.

The pandemic has been a disaster for the average person, yet the wealthy used it as another opportunity to exploit them.

^(sidenote, “stockpiled” is a very apt descriptor…)

Forgive my terrible sources, at least I had something rather than throwing a random claim to the void.

What do you mean? The GDP has only grown (save for like 2-3 quarters).

The rich just saw their chance to become even richer and widen the wealth gap.

tb_ , to technology in Apple slides from 2013 skewer Android as “a massive tracking device”
@tb_@lemmy.world avatar

Don’t forget Apple’s ad revenue soared when they made users be able to opt out of tracking.

And, oh, right! Their own tracking setting was (and probably still is) hidden in the App store of all places because of course they don’t have to play by their own rules.

(Meaning they’re already on their way there)

Edge allows you to “follow” YouTube channels outside of the website itself, not sure how deep that integration goes though as I’ve never bothered to use it.

Also this is the idea behind Grayjay, where creators would be able to have a “universal identity” across platforms.
For now it’s mostly a YouTube and some other video streaming sites alternative.

tb_ , to android in Chrome on iOS supports moving the address bar to the bottom. Why not Android?
@tb_@lemmy.world avatar

Depending on what I’m doing I may have to tap it several times. And I don’t like needing to move my hands around my phone to reach the top of the screen.

So many apps feature some sort of bottom nav bar anyway these days, and with the tiniest amount of scrolling it’s out of sight and out of mind.

Oh I missed a bit on the page and want to scroll back up? Why would I want the address bar to pop up first over the text that’s there!

I’m speaking a bit hyperbolically of course, though I genuinely see no benefit in the address bar being at the top. (Also Firefox all the way baybeee)
