Nintendo? You’re going to wait a very, very long time.

tb_ , to android in What is Shizuku, and what can you do with it on your Android device?
@tb_@lemmy.world avatar

It allows you to connect your wireless debugging to your phone itself, so technically you can do anything on your phone you could from your pc.

Am a fan too. I’d mention YongYea here, but the unorganized unscripted way in which he makes 20 minute videos on every topic really kills it for me.

SkillUp’s weekly summary is much nicer.

Edit: remembered a word

tb_ , (edited ) to games in Larion Studios forum stores your passwords in unhashed plaintext.

But that still means they had your plaintext password at some point.

Edit: which, as some replies suggest, may not actually be much of an issue.

tb_ , to technology in Running AI is so expensive that Amazon will probably charge you to use Alexa in future, says outgoing exec
@tb_@lemmy.world avatar

You can record and edit videos on your own devices, but that doesn’t mean it’s suddenly free for Netflix or YouTube to stream their videos to you.

Some things simply can’t be done locally, such as a web search. Often your route calculations for a map application are also done in the cloud.

tb_ , (edited ) to technology in Gen Z falls for online scams more than their boomer grandparents do
@tb_@lemmy.world avatar

One thing about this particular phenomenon that the article doesn’t take into account is that Gen Z is a lot more online than boomers are, hence they are exposed more often to the various dangers.

The one thing that keeps me on Gboard is the swipe-from-backspace. The way you can select multiple words depending on how far you swipe is such a great feature.

Last I checked SwiftKey (finally) got it as well, but it felt far less accurate.
Samsung’s keyboard only has the hold-to-delete-quicker which is just awful.

tb_ , to technology in Europe wants easy default browser selection screens. Mozilla is already sounding the alarm on dirty tricks

I’m pretty sure that is no longer the case.

I haven’t had any trouble switching my default browser around recently, at least.

That said, they still tried and showed the lows they’re willing to stoop to.
