Hey, y’all! Just another random, loudmouthed, opinionated, Southern-fried nerdy American living abroad.

I’m moving off kbin to lemmy, so I won’t be posting from here (unless kbin social gets it together).

An anti-affirmative action group is suing the US Military Academy at West Point over race-based admissions policies | CNN (www.cnn.com)

The US Military Academy at West Point is being sued for its race-based admissions policies by the same group that won a landmark case against Harvard University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the Supreme Court over affirmative action earlier this year, according to a lawsuit filed Tuesday.

Basically everything including and past Gortach becoming the Duke. I’m in the beginning of Act 3 and had no idea there was a Raphael fight until your comment.

Talking about plot points in the last act of the game, yes, is going to be a spoiler.

stopthatgirl7 OP ,
@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

Sorry, I conflated your comment with the reply to yours which is full of spoilers.

I still had no idea that there was a Raphael fight until you brought it up. Anything in Act 3 is pretty much a spoiler, since it only just came out on PS5 and a lot of folks won’t have gotten there yet. Just be a little more vague with the details if you don’t want to use tags. Not everyone has finished the game yet.

My dude, I have literally seen, on the Fediverse in a gaming comm today, someone linking to all the places you can get the mod to take the pronoun option out since Nexus Mods won’t host it, and it’s currently at a 50-50 like to dislike ratio. These people are legit out there. It’s not as fringe as we want to think it is.

I wasn’t even talking about his horror, to be honest. The man himself was a hot mess of being afraid of everyone different. As well as being oddly picky about who he applied it to - he was extremely antisemitic but married a Jewish woman. He hated gay people but one of his best friends was gay. It was like he hated the idea of Others but was ok with an very few individuals on a very personal level.

As for what you’ve brought up, that’s often, I think, why SF can be used to explore racism or themes of racism. By making a complete alien The Other, you can look at and explore ideas that would nowadays get folks screaming “WOKE!!!” if you tried to explore it with races of people.

stopthatgirl7 OP ,
@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

Only Lovecraft wasn’t low-key at all. Dude was high-key, so much that people in his own time were saying he was racist. I mean, there’s a Hitler or Lovecraft quiz out there.

Lovecraft had very complex thinking about race, oddly enough. He was ok with his Jewish wife because she was “assimilated enough” because at the time he thought assimilation was best. Later, he went against that and thought non-whites should keep their own cultures (but those cultures were inferior) and praised groups trying to do so, and looked down on anyone not Anglo-Saxon. Dude was a paradox and how.

This was in 2020 they were thinking this, and it doesn’t seem like Nintendo was interested at all.

Microsoft offered to buy them back in 2000 or something, and got laughed at. Nintendo is not looking to be bought out. Nintendo does things its way and stays in its lane.

stopthatgirl7 OP ,
@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

I would prefer no one bought Nintendo and they kept on doing what they do. They’ve been around for over 125 and you can still buy the hanafuda playing cards they started out making, so I’m pretty sure they know what they’re doing.

stopthatgirl7 OP ,
@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

I was watching this video this morning, and he points out how these leaks show a pattern of Microsoft basically wanting to buy up all of gaming (I also liked how he called Microsoft’s whole way of think about buying Nintendo as a bit of American imperialism). Folks like their Game Pass and don’t like Nintendo not giving a damn about trends or multiplayer or whatever and just going along doing their own thing, and think it would be a great idea for Microsoft to own them, and…no. Just, no.

stopthatgirl7 ,

Not only the value of money (he really thought people would pay $20 a month for Blue?!); he doesn’t understand Twitter. He’s never been on the side of Twitter that used to joke “Twitter is free!” whenever funny stuff happened on the site. There are whole parts of Twitter he’s never seen, and he thinks his very narrow use case of Twitter is THE way Twitter is used.

When the running joke used to be “Twitter is free,” no one is going to want to pay for it.

stopthatgirl7 ,
@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

Nope. Like, he thinks there’s a huge bot problem on Twitter because he has to deal with bots because he’s famous and talks about crypto. Most Twitter users never deal much with bots so it’s not the big concern. But he does, so he thinks blaming bots for all Twitter’s problems is effective.

I bet he was shocked there was pushback for his API changes when it impacted accounts like the NY subway system, who used it to announce schedule delays. I bet I t never occurred to him people actually used Twitter for something other than shitposting.

Thousands join climate protest in Tokyo calling for '100% renewable energy' (mainichi.jp)

Japan can do wind, but the places where it would be best, like Gunma (the strongest wind in Japan comes off Mt. Akagi in Gunma, and it’s very consistently strong in fall and spring), is basically farmland owned by old people who would never sell their land.

As for nuclear, one thing I’ll never understand is how TEPCO basically ignored the giant stone markers that had been put up a thousand years ago saying that was as far as water from a tsunami had reached. The Fukushima plant was built between where they were and the ocean, and when the tsunami hit, it got out to where those stone markers had been erected. They also didn’t have anywhere near the emergency equipment, like robots that could do into the highly radioactive areas, that they needed (I live in Japan and was here during the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake).

And now, after Fukushima, no one wants a nuclear power plant built near them.

Is this mod for people who are triggered because the field isn’t free form and the only choices are he/she/they? Or people who are triggered because the sheer existence of a they option is an anathema to their existence?

People triggered because of a they option in character creation. Basically, for folks like this dude.

Ironically, one of the biggest changes from Shakespeare’s time and now concerned pronouns. We stopped using “thou/thee” as the informal 2nd person and began to only use what had been the formal 2nd person, “you,” and stopped using the verb conjugations for them.

Meanwhile, the 3rd person singular “they” has been in use since Chaucer’s time.

If you don’t understand how “we lost an entire pronoun and the verb inflection that went with it” is in fact grammar, I don’t even know what to tell you.
