I think this is really the most terrifying thing on climate change that I've read recently. If the Gulf Stream collapses, we are well and truly screwed, and I don't see how we stop it.

It's so infuriating knowing we could have collectively stopped things, like we did with the ozone layer in the 80s and 90s, but there was no financial incentive to do so, like there was with getting rid of CFCs (there was a cheaper alternative that had just been developed iirc), so politicians and companies have done exactly jack and shit.

Unfortunately, the people who did the fucking around aren't actually finding out, because they're still insisting climate change isn't real. DeSantis claimed climate change was "politicization of weather" and won't do anything.

I’m from the southeast, and the thing they drill into us as kids is “if you’re thirsty, it’s too late” when it comes to keeping hydrated.

I feel like a lot of folks don’t respect heat in the same way they do cold. People, in general, know not to screw around when the temperature gets too low, but don’t realize the heat will kill you just as dead.

Once you start spending time in a space where you aren’t inundated with ads, it feels like it grates at you more when you go back and see them again. Going back to poke my head in on twitter after being on Mastodon for so long, and the constant ads are just so much more conspicuous and in your face. Same with going back to Reddit after time on kbin. You don’t realize how pervasive they are until you get away from them for a while.
