Ambassador to Brussels calls comments on settler harassment of Palestinians ‘libelous and defamatory,’ sends letter to foreign ministry as counterpart called for dressing-down

They believe their own bullshit.

Of course they started with an existing platform to save time and money. When anyone else does it, it’s a smart way to save time and money. When anyone related to captain cheese ball does it, it’s because he’s cheap as shit. I wonder if the devs ever got paid.

Backstory that I hadn’t known. Doesn’t surprise me one bit. Cheers to whoever proved the theft.

What are some alternatives to bars that stay open late for folks that don't drink alcohol?

Bars are notable for staying open late, but I’m not really familiar with alternatives that might operate similarly. I think many cafés (at least around my area) tend to close a few hours earlier by comparison, which would be my go-to for an alternative otherwise, so what other options are there?

some_guy ,

Pool halls. I think some bowling venues. Less common, we have a cafe full of hundreds (maybe thousands) of board and card games. They’re only open until 11pm, but that’s still a place to socialize and meet up with people at night.

some_guy ,

I fell for it. I’m a dumbass.

BERLIN, Sept 4 (Reuters) - German Chancellor Olaf Scholz joked that he was eagerly awaiting social media reaction after an official photograph released on Monday showed him wearing an eye patch following a weekend jogging accident.

How the fuck can I kill 20 hours?

My 13 hour flight just got delayed 7 hours, I’m stuck at my second airport, and I dont think I’m gonna make it. I have some movies and audio books on my phone, but really only anticipated having to burn the flight time via napping and some media, not 7 hours leading up to it, and I’m pretty sure I’m gonna mentally burn...

some_guy ,

I rarely play mobile games, but here’s one that I quite like when I need to kill time or be active while media is in the background: Auralux 2.

I initially thought that the game wasn’t properly weighted for difficulty, but then found that I just needed to adapt my strategy. I can complete most levels in 2-3 minutes, though some might take 4-7 depending on how it breaks (I play on the fastest setting after getting good at it on normal speed).

I pick it up when my partner pauses to get a snack, go to the bathroom, or take an important call. I can set it down as soon as she’s ready because there’s no real stakes; I’m really just competing with myself to score faster and faster “best” times. I also play it while listening to podcasts if I can’t be physically active (or when I’m lazy).

I play on iOS. Not sure if it’s on Android.

some_guy ,

The number of wiki tabs open on my phone from shit that I intend to finish in the future but rarely make time to do so supports this suggestion.

some_guy ,

At an airport? Are you trying to harm OP’s sanity?! /s but also not /s

some_guy ,

And just like that, I’ve subscribed to yet another podcast. I don’t know that I would have bothered to look it up myself (actually, I do know; I wouldn’t have). But making it so easy that it took no effort worked. Thank you.

Also, what an important piece of history to learn about. I’m definitely going to assimilate this into my pro-union / pro-worker philosophy.

What they’ve actually done is given her an opportunity to start conversations about the pink hair.

Keen insight. I wouldn’t have known she exists otherwise.

I ordered four m.2 chips for a raid and one of them was not like the others. Clearly a diff brand chip with a sticker transferred to it. Had I not bought multiple chips I might not have caught on.

Fuck amazon for anything of value. I now use it only for things like books and cat litter.

some_guy ,

Wow. I thought you were heading towards it being self-published with fake accreditation or something. Did not expect this.

some_guy OP ,

This is the sad reality that I fear will be proven true. But at least discovery might publicly humiliate him in new and interesting ways.

There’s risk to the soon-to-be-elderly. I think their culture depends on the young to care for the elderly and they’re about to have that upended to some degree.

I say this as a dumb american who has been to Asia but not Japan; I’m speaking way out of turn. If someone who is better-educated on this topic wants to correct me, I’d love to be better informed.

some_guy ,

I sure appreciated him saying this back then. It doesn’t feel like enough anymore.

some_guy ,

I like this better than punishing the kid for their parents’ behavior.

some_guy ,

I dunno. I saw a document about prosecutors and feds learning how to use rico when it was still new. He seemed really cogent in his interview. I think there might have been a time when he was pretty sharp. Now his mind is melted by age and ever-more-insane politics on the right. I think he’s also a well-known alcoholic, and not in the fun party way… the all the time way.

You’re whitewashing and apologizing for nazis:

Similar memorials have also generated outcry in Canada. Jared McBride, a UCLA historian of Eastern Europe, said that within the Ukrainian diaspora, many believe that the soldiers allied with the Nazis with noble intentions.

But it is a view that he said scholars view widely as historical revisionism.

“The Nazi regime was a genocidal regime,” McBride said. “This idea of parsing these things out — that ‘We were the good SS division,’ or ‘The good police unit,’ or ‘The good mobile death battalion’ — is not the strongest of arguments.”

John-Paul Himka, a retired history professor at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, and an expert on Ukrainian history, said SS Galizien had “very little to do with the Holocaust” since it was not formed until 1943 and first saw combat the following year. But, Himka said, the unit was also tied to other war crimes during World War II.

“Galizien fought with the Germans against the Soviets; it helped suppress the Slovak uprising; it was involved in atrocities against Poles and Slovaks; it welcomed into its ranks many perpetrators of the ethnic cleansing against the Polish population and of the Holocaust; it propagated antisemitism and seems to have been involved in a roundup of Jews in Brody in 1944,” Himka said by email. “I cannot accept the notion that they were ‘freedom fighters.’”

I think we should start an online campaign to have it removed. It’d be real interesting to see who shows up trying to protest its removal.

some_guy ,

I thought the church owns the land and they don’t have records for who installed it / paid for it. I think the church could still sanction it’s removal, given that they own the cemetery and it’s not like they’d be removing a tombstone from a person’s grave.

I grew up in a region with extreme hot and extreme cold. After living many years in a milder climate, I think my family are all nuts for staying. Not the climate asshole for wanting to enjoy the outdoors.

some_guy ,

Wow, go fuckin’ gettem, Poland! Yay Poland!

some_guy ,

Wouldn’t the loss of cool air from opening the fridge repeatedly negate the benefit of doing this? Or would one simply remove multiple bottles at once strategically over time? I admit, this sounds like an interesting idea; just not sure what the “most-correct” strategy would be for extending food preservation.

some_guy ,

Yup. Still entertaining, though. I certainly hadn’t heard about this. And the “did their own research,” comment was a hit.

Reddit users are reporting Christian websites for violating Virginia's new porn identification law, citing vulgar passages in the Bible (www.insider.com)

As more and more states pass laws targeting "pornographic material" in books and online, they are repeatedly running up against a problem: The Bible has not just a few passages that could be considered indecent

some_guy ,

The Davis School District initially removed the Bible from school libraries after a review determined it did include “vulgar” content. But the school board unanimously reversed its decision after a review by an appeal committee determined the text has " significant, serious value for minors which outweighs the violent or vulgar content it contains," the AP reported.

There’s no hypocrisy here.

some_guy ,

Well, church leaders have been reporting that the sermon on the mount (or whatever) is being criticized as woke. Maybe there’s something to this idea after all.

some_guy ,

Seriously. If you’re so insecure that you argue with children you’re already a child yourself. If you feel the need for violence toward a child, I don’t think I want you sharing this planet.

some_guy ,

I read the article but I’m uneducated on this topic. It said their government is pursuing asylum seekers. That sounds pretty terrible. My partner escaped her country as an asylum seeker after government persecution. Is this accurate as I’ve described my interpretation?

some_guy ,

This is the valuable one liner that I was looking for. Thanks!

A PoC podcast host that I listen to kept asking guests (it’s a political show) if they thought that explained the difference in response during the first weeks of the war. Nice reminder of this salient fact.

It’d be great to see all far-right criminals brought to justice. But, as ever, I’ll temper my expectations until it happens.

I fucking hate Texas and I came here to support this move. (Most) People are less shitty than you suggest.

some_guy ,

it’s interesting how many comments show that people like to read the headline

I read articles about India landing on the moon, ancestors of humans nearly dying out, tech employees being dissatisfied in Austin, etc. I don’t care about social media enough to read an article. That’s probably a lot of people here.

some_guy ,

I do check Google News daily on the web from my computer. And I also read news stories posted to Lemmy. I also have a bunch of RSS feeds on my phone, but that’s typically nerd computer stuff unless someone happens to comment on a news article on their blog.

Anger in Sweden as Nobel Prize organizers invite Russia and Belarus to the award ceremonies. (news.yahoo.com)

USA will never be invited again. Which is fair.

That’s a good chunk of why I’m here. Any post at 3am is this. I’m in a timezone, so who can guess when that applies. If you do the work to figure it out, you have no life.

as someone who grew up in Texas but now lives in NYC, it is exactly this kind of condescension that makes a lot of Texans dislike people from the coasts.

That’s fine with me. I’ve lived in Michigan, Tennessee, Kansas, and California. There are lots of good people in each of the first three as well as lots of small minds. The Bay Area feels right to me.

I remember seeing a FB post from someone in Kansas saying that they felt that anyone who couldn’t be happy there didn’t really try. You can’t imagine my rage at that statement: blaming me for my depression when I didn’t fit in during my school years. What a joke. No, I can’t be happy in that environment long-term.

The Bay Area would have offered me so much more opportunity for happiness as a teen, such that it’s practically stupid. I feel schadenfreude at Texas getting reminded that it isn’t hot shit.

I feel terribly for the people who were deceived and have regrets about their situation. Still, they did it to themselves. For all the negatives on the west coast, it’s a paradise to me in terms of opportunities for work and recreation and finding similarly-minded people and making friends.

some_guy ,

And in NYC a car is a liability.
