some_guy , to news in Biden left without an easy solution as campus protests heat up

That would require admitting that they were wrong. Which I admit is hard, but come on, man.

some_guy , to asklemmy in What was your best decision in life?

Moving to California. Happened on a whim. Change my life completely because I didn’t fit in my conservative state and would never have achieved actual happiness. Also, continuing therapy.

No, see, if you teach them to gamble when they’re young then they’ll be good at it as adults and won’t destroy their lives. /s

some_guy , to news in Boy Scouts’ police Explorer program has faced over 200 sexual misconduct accusations

Actually, it was only (jfc) one third. But many of those that were reprimanded got off light or even reoffended. One was abusing a child family member after a light punishment.

If I had kids, I wouldn’t let them near anything sponsored by or affiliated with the Boy Scouts.

“Not here,” she said in disbelief. “You hear about this everywhere else but not here.”

some_guy , to news in Violence breaks out at UCLA after officials declare pro-Palestinian encampment 'unlawful'

The real headline (maybe LA Times changed it after this was posted):

UCLA cancels classes after counterprotesters violently attack pro-Palestinian camp

Snippets from the article:

Just before midnight, a large group of counterdemonstrators, wearing black outfits and white masks, arrived on campus and tried to tear down the barricades surrounding the encampment. Campers, some holding lumber and wearing goggles and helmets, rallied to defend the encampment’s perimeter.

A group of security guards could be seen observing the clashes but did not move in to stop them.

At around 1:40 a.m., police officers in riot gear arrived, and some counterprotesters began to leave. But the police did not immediately break up the clashes at the camp, which continued despite the law enforcement presence.

“It gives people impunity to come to our campus as a rampaging mob,” she said early Wednesday. “The word is out they can do this repeatedly and get away with it. I am ashamed of my university.”

I bet dollars to donuts there were fascists in that group who hate Jews but just wanted cover to go bash some Leftists.

some_guy , to technology in Apple's 'incredibly private' Safari is not so private in Europe

Apple – which advertises Safari as “incredibly private” – evidently has undermined privacy among European Union Safari users through a marketplace-kit: URI scheme that potentially allows approved third-party app stores to follow those users around the web.

I don’t see Apple deliberately sabotaging their platform to maliciously comply and blame the regulation for making users less safe. This was probably an error caused by quick development to comply within a set timeline that will be resolved in the future through software changes.
