Ublue Framework Laptop Question

Good morning everyone. I am looking to get a Framework 13 for my wife for basic computer tasks and use Kinoite. I have been a fan of the AMD APUs but don’t necessarily need the GPU power for her use cases. I have just found out about Universal Blue and the Framework 13 Intel image that applies “recommended power settings”...

sic_semper_tyrannis OP ,

Okay so I understand you’re saying both work well for what they are. What is the battery time like with your experiences? Also, you mention the Gnome power profiles a few times. Should I expect a similar experience with Kinoite and Plasma? Thank you for your feedback!

sic_semper_tyrannis OP ,

Well thank you. That’s very helpful for me

Is Framework actually "good" for the industry?

Framework as in the laptop company, just for clarity. frame.work. For those unaware, the idea is that these are laptops built with a high degree of modularity so that you can replace far more than a single stick of SODIMM with the goal of even upgrading your CPU and mainboard a few years down the line....

sic_semper_tyrannis ,

I plan to get one soon. The largest value I see is in a company that cares about your right to repair and open sourcing their components so anyone can make parts easily. They also have a hardware killswitch for the camera. Also I hope to see more options for Coreboot which seems likely. If people actually care about e-waste too this seems (I haven’t looked into their manufacturing deeply) like a way to not add as much trash into the environment and not waste as much material in this age of consumerism and wastefulness. Of course the upgradeability is a welcome change to the laptop market and they have official support for some Linux distros

sic_semper_tyrannis ,

Thanks! I’m planning to use Bazzite when I get my next laptop and this is very informational. I never knew about Universal Blue but now I think it’s a fantastic resource!

I got stuck in the first game where a boss would just utterly destroy my team. I tried a few times and never got close to winning. Maybe I’ll give it another shot

sic_semper_tyrannis ,

No, not at the beginning. I’m trying to remember but I’m getting two memories mixed together so I’m not quite sure now which spot it was.

sic_semper_tyrannis ,

“We expect them to do so in accordance with international law and to protect innocent people…"

What an insulting thing to say to people. Don’t treat your citizens like idiots.

sic_semper_tyrannis ,

Libro.FM seems to be an honorable website to purchase DRM free audiobooks. They’ll send money from your purchase to your local bookstore of choice.

sic_semper_tyrannis ,

Maybe No Man’s Sky. I’m not too sure what people think of it now a days but it had a massive turn around since launch

sic_semper_tyrannis ,

This is why I only buy DRM free games from GoG and download them forever so my copy stays the way it should be. With me and DRM free.

It’s neat to see solar technology go this far. Was there a support team?

A great positive is that it is a very light weight vehicle. The approach angle looks good. It’s cool how it pops open to supposedly live in but I wonder what the interior is actually like. I can’t imagine it is carrying much living supplies, water, etc as it’s a very light vehicle.

Some negatives include terrible ground clearance and a horrendous departure angle. I can’t imagine the break over angle is very good considering the low ground clearance. It also has small tire sidewalls so they couldn’t have aired down much.

All in all, not a serious off road vehicle. I would argue it’s as much of an off road vehicle as a Prius is with a roof top tent on it. It’s just meant to cruise fire roads.

Looking for Linux SFF PC Post

Apologies if this isn’t the correct forum. A couple of days back, maybe a week, someone made a post asking if a certain pre-built SFF PC would run Linux. Several people responded that they run that same PC and that it works great. I’m planning to build a PC for my mother and this would be perfect for her needs. However, I...

Think if we instead of giving trillions of dollars to the Ukraine, spent it on our own country. If we spent all that money on this project alone it might actually be beneficial to our people

Lots of similarities. I also think it’s the same engine. I wonder how the combat will be as well

This is simply untrue. I know a large BTC mining operation and they don’t use water. They use the gases coming off from oil mining that would otherwise go into the atmosphere. BTC mining takes advantage of surplus energy so it’s creation doesn’t go to waste. The mining is good for our environment. I’ve also read about solar panels sitting above crops to power BTC miners. These panels covering the crops help conserve water while helping the plants grow better.

sic_semper_tyrannis ,

People can talk all day and say things could have been used for something else or something better. Most of the time people can think of an idea but nobody does it. Don’t be hateful towards BTC miners because they actually did it. Like someone else mentioned in another comment, water would be much better utilized by not going into thousands of pools and golf courses or watering lawns. You would probably need investors to have a large operation but it doesn’t make these people elite or whatever whales are. The people I know who mine using oil exhaust are wholesome good people just making it by like everyone else is and trying to live their dream. The difference is BTC (not other cryptos) using renewable energy puts it in a unique position to be a good product for everyone as it’s a money that is equal for everyone to use, unlike traditional fiat currencies.

It’s called “agrivoltaic” farming. Be sure to checkout the hyperlinks in this article too: theconversation.com/how-shading-crops-with-solar-…

Dice with the OG Battlefield 2 on PC. That’s what I mostly played. Now I haven’t touched a BF game in years. None have lived up to that game yet.

Pretty cool. I’d compare this one to the Odroid H3±

I found it for $165. Definitely wouldn’t pay $250.

Anyone knows about calm Windows games with 1-finger touch screen support?

What I am searching for is for games that support touch screens and can be played with 1 finger / one hand. No action games with fake joysticks on the screen, just games that work with a single finger or at least one hand while lying in bed and trying to wind down. One very good example is Civilization V, which has a dedicated...

PC Gaming Wiki states that World of Goo is touchscreen optimized. It’s such a great game.

Switched to Linux, don't know what to do

Hello everyone, I just installed Linux (I’m new to it), in particular Linux Mint, with dual booted Windows for games. Tinkered with it a bit, loved the way it looked, loved how fast it is, but I really don’t want to stop on one option and stick with it for a while. I want to try new stuff, new distros (that’s how you call...

I made it to Linux! What is your must-have FOSS or Free Software for linux?

Thank you so much, comrades! I am feeling pretty comfortable with linux mint, and now would like some suggestions for some absolutely necessary FOSS or free license software for the OS. So far I have the standard, Firefox, ThunderBird, LibreOffice, yada yada. Thank you again to everyone on the linux comm! sankara-salute

They don’t need to come up with rules to stop data brokers, they need to come up with rules to block the collection of data in general so it can’t get to data brokers or anyone else. Also a great framework to adapt already exists in the EU, so stop stalling. But who am I kidding, the US government doesn’t really care.

Great post! Now I have a better understanding of the subject. Another meta search engine I found is 4get.ca

I didn’t know what nano.RIPE was and still don’t really (maybe a musician or store), but I understand enough to know what he’s saying now. I know not all music is available but quite a bit is (this was surprising to me). Maybe the outlying songs are left to pirating. That’s a personal predicament.

sic_semper_tyrannis ,

Same

sic_semper_tyrannis ,

Well put. I typically use 7digital and sometimes HDTracks. Bandcamp confused me but I need to give it another go.

Purchasing music also gives a much higher percentage of money to the artist compared to streaming platforms.

Retro Music is my favorite player for Android and Elisa for Linux (maybe Windows too).
