The English translation of Cassandra - a dramatic retelling of the Trojan War from a woman's point of view - by Ukrainian poet and author Lesya Ukrainka, released today.

Sasha Dovzhyk writes about Cassandra, and the importance of Ukrainka - "a forgotten feminist icon of European culture" - here:

@glukozavr @bookstodon It does look pretty great! I skimmed through it yesterday. Easy to follow recipes, plenty of simple beginner-friendly stuff, and they sound delicious.

His Youtube channel is very interesting too: he currently has a collaboration going with Ukraїner which seems quite experimental too: more like food preparation as art. The videos have no voice, just pure style (with recipe in the description). Great stuff for anyone who enjoys watching chefs.

@glukozavr @bookstodon I also heard of that book! Maybe one day when my Ukrainian is good enough to follow recipes I will buy it 😄

Today is the 38th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster.

I can recommend Serhii Plokhy's masterpiece 'Chernobyl: History of a Tragedy' for a deep and compelling examination of the events of that fateful day.

He explores the background leading up to the meltdown, the consequences - both for Ukrainian people and the fate of the USSR - and the effects on the people involved.

A fantastic read.

Even though I have no experience with db queries, there was something I wanted to do in so I worked really hard on an advanced query. It took me all day but I won and it works and I know how it works so I can change it if I want.

It involved asking for help and crying and gathering myself back together and trying again and I would appreciate some positive feedback about doing a hard thing please. @adhd @actuallyautistic

@SinnahSaint @adhd @actuallyautistic Congratulations! Achieving anything like this is always impressive, even more so if it's something a bit more obscure with fewer online resources.

Hello and @bookstodon
Forgive me for spamming you, but maybe you can help me? I'm trying to learn to use mastodon better, so I have a few questions about your habits.
Do you use both tag and group? Or just the one? What do you use it for? Examples:
To talk with others about books.
To find an online community I fit into.
To learn of new books I didn't know existed.
To broadcast my blog posts/reviews about books.
Other?

Does it work for you?
If you've read so far: Have a nice day☀️

@iamgaarden @Funktious @bookstodon Mastodon now allows one to configure lists to 'hide these posts from home'. It may be possible to combine this with the bookstodon group by adding the group to a list, hiding the posts of that list from home, interact with the group only when you browse the list?

I am unsure this will work, will try to test but if anybody can confirm that'd be great.

@jcct @iamgaarden @Funktious @bookstodon Thanks. I think I heard somebody say something similar for busy accounts.

Wasn't sure if the fact it's a group might cause some quirks, but it seems to have worked as intended for me: with the group in a list, and the list set to hide from home, I do indeed only see the group posts in that list.

@ramblingreaders @bookstodon I love Bookwyrm! It's a great alternative to Goodreads. I haven't used it much, because I haven't read much the last few months, but really looking forward to writing more reviews and seeing what others are reading that I might be interested in.

It's really nice how you can follow Bookwyrm accounts from elsewhere in the fediverse.

@ramblingreaders @bookstodon Also, you reminded me to post my current read and I had to add it as a new book manually (only the US edition on there, and the UK edition has a much better cover). So thanks for that 😀

Around 33 hours left on the Embroidered Worlds Kickstarter - a collection of Ukrainian science fiction.

Recently hit the third stretch goal (custom bookplates for backers, designed by a Ukrainian artist). Great going!

Let's see if we can push it a little higher 😊
